Heat Duct Question

I was recently cleaning my heat vents and found that the end run at the back of our 5th wheel is not capped. The rectangular tube is just open and the heat just keeps going into the insulation. We have a 2005 37 foot Wildwood 5th wheel. This in the back bedroom. We have not had any problems but I am wondering if I should cap it at the register. If I do cap it will it be pushing more heat into that bedroom that already gets more than its fair share of the heat. I was also wondering if there would be a way to send more of its heat up to the bedroom at the opposite end of the trailer? Appreciate your thoughts.

Typically, if you have an underbelly they will leave one run open in your belly.. that's where the "heated underbelly" spec comes from.

I guess it would depend on how you're using it.. if it gets cold enough when you camp that you'd have to worry about it freezing, then I'd say leave it alone. If it doesn't and you could use some more heat somewhere then I might cap it off and put a regulator in the bedroom.

It may be to stop your Grey,Black and fresh water tanks from freezing when in use.

I think I am going to do as you suggested and leave it alone. I don't think the heat duct does anything for the tanks since they hang below the belly in the open air. There are no tanks or pipes in that bedroom area either.

Sounds like wasted energy if it is not serving a function. I'd cap it and put a register to the bedroom.

Thanks for replying! It already has a heat register in the bedroom and if you leave the door closed it gets unbearably hot in the room. Maybe I should see about one of those magnetic covers or a register that allows you to open & close it.

Is it the regular household sized one?

If so, I'd just go to Home Depot and buy one. I bought one that's plastic and meant for TV use.. it's worthless.. the plastic warped and I can't close it now.
