Help Very confused Shocks

I am new to this forum so pls forgive me if this has already been addressed. But I am scratching my head over this one. I am not even sure how I have not noticed this in the past. I was under my Cardinal 5th wheel the other day cleaning and lubing and I looked up and saw that the bottom of the shock next to my head was just hanging there. It was not connected to the bottom plate. I laughed and said to my self that the guy at the factory must have gone to lunch in the middle of putting in the shocks and forgot this one. But then when I looked over and all 4 were in the same condition. Connected at the top but not at the bottom. I have asked everyone I know and when they stopped laughing at me had no I idea why they would do this on purpose. Any idea's?

Thanks
Mark

Well, they don't wear out that way at least.

I didn't actually realize they use shocks on trailers... just assumed they use springs or torsion bar suspension. Must check mine now.

Thanks
Honestly I would rather not have any than have them just hanging there. Not sure where to connect them or not.

Yes Mark that must have a lunch time or holiday weekend unit.

There should be a bracket somewhere for them to connect.

I was going to be a jerk and call them lifetime shocks but I wont do that to you.

Sad that things get out of the factory like that.

This thread reminded me of years past.

I had a good friend that was a tech at the largest buick dealer in Memphis. It was 1983

and the 1983 Buick Riveria Convertible was a high dollar car at the time. He had one come in with a BAD rattle and after two months (customer got a new car before this time) He was told bu GM to cut it up with a torch and find the problem.

So My friend cut the car apart and got to the frame and still had nothing. The GM authority told him "cut the frame we have to find this problem"

In the frame they found a coke bottle with a note inside

Note was "ha thought you would never find this one didnt you"

Wonder who lost there job on that one.

Car was traced build date 7/1/1983 that was a friday before the holiday weekend.

some people just dont care

Yup the brackets are there. The shocks are just not connected to them. All that is needed is a nut and washer on top and then another on the bottom. There is even a hole in each bracket where the shock shaft should go through. I am sure you are right they must still be brandy new!

No worries. We just don't want to see any member getting any unwanted email (SPAM) because of an email address posted on this site.

If you have any questions, all you have to do is ask.

Wink

Gee Mark, I do hope you took a picture to send to Forest River for the amusement, entertainment and edification of their Quality Control people. And, since one good joke deserves another, you might send the trailer VIN number also. Perhaps they can track down the prankster who inspected your trailer and give him or her a special award, or something.
