Yeah that's the weight of the Truck In IL trucks use B truck plates 8000 and under that I had on My 98.5 3500 This one has to have D plates and be tested 2x a year.

On my 14,2500 CUMMINS.

The sticker that you are pointing out said 10k. That is the gvwr.
Actual weight on the scale, of truck alone was 7919.
Meaning I had 2081 left in payload.

I would guess, your truck would scale in around 9k.
Subtract actual weight, from sticker = payload.

The key word in gvwr is the R....that stands for RATING people (i know you know this kenny)

Im getting about 13.5 empty in my 2015 gmc 3500 drw 4x4 diesel...but i drive about 80mph ish and i idle more than i should. Dont have a good tow number yet with only 3200 miles on it, but i think i was doing 11ish towing my 8-10k boat. (That's boat and its trailer combined)

That's pretty impressive efficiency!

If anyone here is a math wiz, could someone do the calculations and create a graph or table (given all this great data we have been getting in this thread) that shows the max efficiency ratio on weight versus speed versus tow vehicle?

Interesting thread.
Everyone notice the consistent number of "11"? No matter what was towing or what was being towed, average fuel mileage has consistently been close to 11 mpg.

Funny thing is i don't even care about mpg on my trucks. I'm going to go where i want, pulling my crap. I care more about how often i have to fill up. If i had a bigger tank i really wouldn't even notice. (But this is coming from a guy who's boat has a 100+ gallon tank and might get 2 mpg if im lucky)

I really don't think at this moment in life anyone really cares what our mpg is. Diesel here in Alabama is 1.92 per gallon for the time being. I can slow my truck down to 65 and go from 11mpg towing to 13mpg, but who really cares when fuel is so cheap.


Lets face it, we spend 60k on a truck, 37k on a Puma Unleashed 5er, 30K in a RZR to go in Puma, if we can't afford fuel, we should re-evaluate what we are doing here.


My position in life could very well change Monday morning, but for now I am going to enjoy it while I can. I'm 45 years old, had a heart attack and double bypass in 2015 and that will really change the way you look at things.


Long story short-here is my bad advice for 2016-work on your bucket list BEFORE it's too late!

agreed....It is more of a curiosity. I am surprised by the numbers for the guys with gas engines. I never did better than 10 (generally >9) towing my old 7500# TT with a K2500 Suburban (6.0 gas)

Range is more of a concern for me when towing. I have been kicking around the idea of installing a transfer tank to increase my range.


Boat MPG-- you don't even want to consider calculating it. From what I have seen in boating magazines 2 mpg is an "economy vehicle" when it comes to boats. I just know when mine needs fuel it either goes to the trailer or the marina for more!
