MorRyde Step Above or Lippert Solid Step

Hey everyone, just thinking about upgrading to either one of these... just looking for insight from folks that already have experience one or both of these steps.

Pros/Cons, things to watch out for?

We have the MorRyde one in our camper,It came with it.Had the 3 step fold out on our previous camper ,Hands down we like the Step above,Drawbacks are you get some dirt inside when you close them ,you also can't partially open them.Very sturdy then the pull outs .

I've had both the MorRyde and Lippert on two different campers.

They are similar very sturdy when walking up/down steps and no "springboard" feeling

I prefer the Lippert due better screen door clearance and the larger top step

MORyde is coming out with a gen 2.0 of their Step Above steps. It has several changes, including the wider top step (like the Lippert) and an easier height/leveling adjustment. Apparently they are coming out as standard equipment on some Grand Design units at the end of 2020. It's not on the general replacement market yet. I would lean towards the Gen 2 of the MORyde Step Above units unless you have to get one "now" instead of in a month or two when they come out.

DW is all about the wider top step on the Lippert... so that is the one in the lead right now. But, since the camper is winterized, and basically put to bed for the winter, there's definitely no rush to get this done.


Looks like MorRyde is about $50 cheaper than the Lippert, so might as well wait and see what the pricing is on the 2.0 you guys are talking about. I didn't see anything about it on the website when I looked to see what model I need.

We picked up a 2021 Geo Pro 20BHS last week (built the last week of October) and they have the Step Above installed. They have the wider top step and the support legs can be lowered by simply pushing down on them. If you need to shorten, you press a lever and they can be pushed up, or if they are in the stored position, gravity will retract them into the stair.

So far we love them and are happy we didn't get the previous version with the pins.

I put a lot of research into both before purchasing the Lippert steps and decided the Lippert were superior to the MorRyde steps for several reasons. I was also looking for justification for the (roughly) $100.00 higher cost of the Lippert steps back then.

I installed the Lippert steps myself in less than an hour with no modifications or after-installation problems like those spoken about with the MorRyde steps here and at other RV forums.

I love the Lippert steps. So do my wife and dogs.

Installed the Moryde in about a half hour. Like the stability. The only drawback that you may want to plan for is where you park. Our camper is in our yard and close to a fence. I cannot drop the steps. We have to come in the back door. Not a big deal just something to think about. Also, the door we installed it on has a gas shock that only allows the door to open 90 degrees from closed. I have to pop the shock off, open the door, drop the steps, then reattach the shock. That sounds like a lot but takes less than a minute. Some minor inconveniences but just wanted to make sure everyone has all the facts.

You might want to think about getting rid of that gas prop door support and install the add-on friction hinges instead.

I just installed the Lippert Solid Step last week, I went with the Lippert due to the wider top step and protective guard, I saw mention of the Morryde Gen 2.0 but did not see where it was going to be available for purchase anytime soon, it was mentioned that it was being installed by the factory and available that way. I bought at rvupgrades.com, it was about $20 more than what I found elsewhere but rvupgrades included FREE shipping which brought the overall cost down, Amazon also had them with free shipping them but they were $100 higher than what I ended up paying.

I liked the idea of this type of step since they seemed to be more solid than the folding steps that came with my trailer. I initially got the Morrride steps but to install them required modification of the entry door so I returned them and ordered the Lippert steps. The Lippert steps installed with no required modifications. I really like the new steps and the wider top step was an additional advantage.

At the end of our camping season, at my bride's request, I decided to replace our flimsy steps. Went to the MORryde website and used their "step qualifier", making sure of all measurements. The qualifier told me the exact steps (STP-3-30-04H), I needed. Found that set at Walmart for $257.21 delivered. Steps were delivered in 3 days. Took about 20 minutes to install. Steps fit perfectly with no door interference. The wife loves them! She's 63, 5'2" and 125 lbs, and she handles the steps without any problems. She did buy a small wisk broom to clean them off before securing them. Well worth the money.

I just installed our new Morryde steps and it was a bit more complicated than the vendor's installation videos. The first problem was we had to remove our automatic door opener. The screen door will have to be cut down a bit and we're not sure how to get that done. I only need about 1/4" and a grinder may do it. Last was an adjustment they don't tell you about which is if it isn't seating right on top of where the sill was, you need to close the main door and literally pick up the bottom step and bend the entire metal back to a 90 degree angle. Once I did that, everything fit but the screen door. We have the newer version with the adjustment feet on the back rather than the front.
We do love the steps so I'd probably do it all over again if we ever change 5ers. I may make a "locker" where the old steps folded into. The old steps went to the dump, they were very heavy.

I'm quite sure MorRyde is the originator of this type step. We first saw it at the MorRyde plant in Elkhart about 4 years ago when it was a prototype. It was functioning and so we ask if it were able to fit our 2013 Cedar Creek 36CKTS. They said yes, so we had it installed at their factory while they were retrofitting our coach with disk brakes. I'm thinking we probably had one of the first of it's kind installed, if not the first. We then returned to the FROG rally and when some of the other campers saw our steps, they wanted them as well. MorRyde has since improved the step somewhat but I would not want to go back to the fold out step. It's solid as a rock and I'll live with a little vacuuming at the door entry if needed.

Just replace factory pull out with TorkLift Glowstep. A little pricey at $600 but worth every cent. 3 levels of adjustment and adjustable feet for uneven surface. Light weight, direct bolt in, and rated up to 350lbs.
