Rims and Tires on Columbus 2016 320RS
We have a 320RS on order scheduled to be built mid-March. From what I can tell it will have Westlake 235/80R16E tires. Can anyone confirm that is what they have on their Columbus?
Also wondering about the rims that come with. My reason is that I am considering replacing the tires right away with G614's. They have a max pressure of 110psi and I want to know if the rims that come with the trailer are rated to 110psi.
I have seen mix results with the Westlake tires and can't find the speed rating for them. I don't drive faster than 65 anyway but I don't like to be right at the limits of any of the gear.

I saw a lot of trailers with OEM Westlake tires on them at a recent RV show. Their OEM provider was using 100% nitrogen in them. The specs for your trailer show it having 6000# axles. If you find 80 PSI in your tires at the PDI they should be good to go. If under inflated they are highly suspect as coming from the factory like that and not so good to go.

Airdale - I am interested in upgrading the tires either now or maybe next year as we put on about 5000-7000 miles a year. One tire I am looking at is the G614's and the max pressure is 110psi. I want the rims to be able to handle that pressure in case some tire shop guy puts max pressure in sometime when I might have it in for service. Don't want to have more pressure than the rims are rated for.
As for what comes on it I know they say nitrogen and to that I don't care either way. If they ever need air I will be using my air compressor to fill them. Also told they are Westlake but not positive of which ones. I would like to find the speed rating for them so I know if I have some safety margin if I run at 65mph.
TURBS - PM sent back. Thanks.

Got some info from another source one of who works at FR. Rims are good to 110psi so switching to G614's will not require updating them.
Can't get much for the Westlakes as "take-offs" so thinking I'll just run them for the first year and see how they do. First sign of a problem and off they will come. Don't like being broken down.

I put 12k plus on my Westlakes and changed them out for Hercules 14 ply and I have 14k on those. The Westlakes had some uneven wear and scuffing on them so rather than push it, I just had the Hercules put on. My tire guy says he has seen many heavy trailers use the Hercules and have had very good service from them. Right at $600, balanced and installed. Much less than the GY G614. So far, they run cooler and have no noticeable wear pattern after 14k mi. I use a TPMS, run them at 95 psi per the weight at the tires and recommendation of my tire guy. Rims are rated to 110 psi but I would not run any tires that high as the ride would be just bouncing down the road. I needed no modification of anything to use the tires and my tire covers fit no problem after the change.

All of the new Westlake tires in your size have a speed letter "L" (75 MPH) on their sidewalls.

Thanks everyone. I am planning on running the Westlake tires for at least the first year. Good to hear they are probably going to be rated to 75. Again won't go that fast but good to know I have a margin.
I'll look into those Hercules when the time comes. While I do want like to buy the best I can afford there is no reason to over spend on something either.

My 2015 320RS has 110psi rated rims on it. If in doubt, just pull the wheel and on the backside it will show the rating. I like many, worried about the Westlakes but my tire guy said they were decent tires and should not worry for the first year. After the first year they came off and I installed LT truck tires. Sold Westlakes for ~$150.

I have these exact tires but cannot find a speed letter anywhere. There is nothing after this Westlake 235/80R16E.
Where is that speed rating found on these tires?

I have a spare ST235/80R16E Westlake tire at home. So I checked this tire slightly to the right; as I was looking at the tire and down. There is 129/125L molded in to the tire. This is the load and speed rating of the tire. The reason for the 129/125 numbers are if used in a dually application than the tire is rated at 125 at maximum air pressure of 110 PSI.
The L rating is the speed rating and is good to 75MPH if you want to go that fast!
There is also a letter designation for loading which is G and states a 14 ply tire.
Hope this helps?

Our Westlake tires made our first 8000 mi. trip to Alaska then replaced them with 14 ply just for piece of mind. I replaced one that blew out but I think it was my fault as I missed the tapered block going up on the curb parking at home.

Here are the photos I promised you. The first is a overall tire photo and the second is the close-up of the area.

Fwiw, the manufacture did confirm that the 235/85R16E was speed rated at 75...not that I plan on it, but always good to know.

Ok little confused here. The 235/85R16 are a G rated not E. The 235/80R16 are E rated. My understanding is the tires that come on the Columbus are the E rated tires as I was told by the factory. The ratings can be checked in the link posted by OakLevel.
Anyone with 235/80R16 that can confirm the speed rating. They do look like decent enough tires and I will run them a year or 2 before switching.
Jim34RL did your trailer come with the 235/85R16's?

I hope the 235/80R16 are also rated for 75. I also do not plan on running that but I do normally set my cruise around 63 on the flats and I would like to know I am not right on the edge of the tire rating.
