Screen Door Question

I could post this in the "Rockwood" section, or the "Windows, Doors & Awnings" section, but I thought this might apply to other travel trailer owners with a similar problem, so I'm posting it here.

So we have this new Rockwood 2906BS travel trailer. The (30") entry door has a window with a built in accordion type interior shade that you push up to close and pull down to open.

It's sort of a pain in the axx to do this. From inside the camper, in order to raise or lower this shade, you have to open the screen door and entry door together but only about 90 degrees, climb down a few steps, close the screen door behind you, then raise or lower the shade on the entry door (fun if its cold or raining out), open the screen door until it latches onto the entry door, then climb back up the stairs closing both doors together behind you.

Not a super big deal, but there's got to be a better way. Does anyone know if someone makes a replacement upper screen for the screen door that somehow opens or retracts so I could get access to the entry door shade and open and close it from inside the camper? I've looked but couldn't find anything.

Leave the door window shade open all the time.

If you feel that you need to have a shade on it. Get some command strips hooks stick them above the door inside the camper and hang some fabric or something to block the window in the door.

This would be super easy to remove when you don't want the door window blocked.

I have never closed this shade on the door window. We just leave it open all the time.

Also if you have your awning out and set low I don't think people are going to see into your camper through this small door window if that is the concern.

You didn’t say for sure or not, but I suspect this window in your entry door is clear glass, and so the shade is for privacy?

Most, or at least a lot of entry doors, have frosted glass in that door to allow some light in, but still give you privacy.

Personally, based on your troubles you have between having the shade up or down, I’d leave it down, and attach adhesive window film to the door glass. You have quite a selection of styles….tint, coloured, stained glass-look, etc.

Here’s some examples…….

Thanks kendive - I wound up doing something similar to what you suggested.

I now leave that pleated shade in the outside door open all the time (as you mentioned that you also do). Back a few months ago, after getting no suggestions, I just bought a retractable shade to install above the door on the inside of the camper that matches all of the other shades in the camper and that is the width of the door frame. At night - after we take the dogs out for their last bathroom trip of the night - we come back in and just pull the shade down low enough to block that outside window (pull it down about to the middle of the door). In the morning we open that shade up along with all the other shades - simple enough. This shade basically hugs the door, so it doesn't get in the way when its down or up. This is similar to your suggestion to hang some fabric from command strip hooks to block the window. Thanks for the response.

That's great. Glad you got it figured out.

But I agree that shade is a pain behind the screen. LOL

I had an older camper back when this clear view door window was just coming into the mainstream. I bought one and removed that ugly privacy window in the door and love being able to see out the door window.

Seems like the clear window on the door is installed on most all new campers now.

Thanks kenandterry -

Yes, it's clear glass. And that would be a great suggestion about the adhesive window film if we were just concerned about privacy. But we also wanted to stop the light from coming in in the morning too, so I wound up installing a shade on the inside of the camper above the door (see post 4). Thanks for the suggestion.
