Thinking of maybe selling and buying older?? Thoughts?

For me, these questions usually come down to are you able to get enough out of your current trailer to justify the move. You stated you thought you could get 25K or thereabouts for it. How much did you pay? How much depreciation are you willing to take, and more importantly, how much do you owe?

Unless you are going to get enough cash out to buy a less expensive trailer, you are looking at another loan. That loan will probably be higher interest rate and shorter term. You may end up with a monthly payment not much less than what you have now.

However, if you look at those things and it looks like it will still save you significant money, I would start talking to local dealers. You may be able to find one that will take you trade, pay your loan and get you a decent deal on something cheaper. To them it is still a sale. I have seen people do this with a car before.

Finally, I heard you say something about buying land...there are plenty of people who have sold their house, bought a small piece of land and put the trailer on the land to live in while they saved money to build/built their next house. I have given this some thought. I figure my wife and I could put about 1500 a month in the bank after considering the purchase of the land, living expenses etc. That works out to 18K after one year, which is a heck of a downpayment toward the house we would want.

As for someone's problems now being mine. I am quite capable of remodeling a TT and fixing other problems. As I did that to our 2000 Rockwood TT. I am starting to like the idea of a paid off camper. I love the comfort of a new 5 year warranty unit. However not having a payment would allow us to look at new property to build on sooner.

I will have to keep my eyes open for a repo unit or clean used one maybe on craigslist or something.

We drove by it for about 3 months thern we decided to stop and take a look at it, and we fell in love with it, I made them an offer of 6000 after the repo yard told me that they just lowered the price to 9000, the bank rejected my offer and said it was 12,000. I waited another month and then had them contact the bank and find out what is the lowest they would take and they told me 7000, so I told them sold!!! Unless you know that it is on the yard as a repo they might not advertise it. I think we got lucky. I think that they have 4 or 5 on their lot right now, but I have not drove by there in a while.

I gotta say that most would think you are crazy. However you need to do what is right for all of you and your situation. Quality older rvs are out there but finding one will be a chore. If you buy 5 or 6 yo. You may soon need a roof, or a large appliance ect... Wish you luck with whatever you decide.
