Nah, I know I'm the oddball. Everyone else seems to like it. My wife likes it and daughter loves it. But yeah- no me.

Cheers, mate.

Stayed once in truck stop, little or no sleep due to noise. Typically stay in cg, found most will provide a pull thru at no extra cost if they no you are there for one night. Do not u hitch, deploy jack to take load off tt. Get on road early after having shower and breakfast. No issue of slide deployment, feel much safer as well. Have good place to walk the fur baby as well.

We stayed in a flying J on a trip across the US and received a ticket for 80 the store couldn't do anything and since we're from Canada we just paid the damn thing.....never again in a truck stop. And no we couldn't see any signs that said we couldn't.

If we are in a hurry and are driving 12-14 hours a day, we'll stop at rest area, truck stop, walmart, etc. and tolerate the noise.

If we are traveling casually and not in a hurry, we'll generally drive 8 hours, and then seek out a RV park or campground. We use Passport a lot. Most of the places we do with Passport are off the beaten path.

We are travelers, not campers.

Being in the west, pull-offs are more readily available....between longitude 100 and the Sierras are ranch roads and simple wide spots.

And.......off the beaten path is where we like to go.

At WM, CB, Lowe's, and the like, at least you don't have your neighbor wattering his yappy hairy rats at 0430, under your bedroom window.

Whatever floats yer boat.

Truck stops are for commercial drivers. Those guys work hard and have hell finding a legal parking for there rig. Nothing worse than some clown in an RV parked in a truck stop

I agree with you as I come from a family of truck drivers. If it is the only place for us to get off the road, we will stay in one. We need to rest as well in order to be safe. I would rather stay away from the trucks because of the noise. My husband can sleep, but I can't.

Not Friendly In California

The west coast is NOT friendly to campers.

I quote:
California Department of Transportation's Rest Areas
You May: Stay up to 8 hours in any 24 hour period
You May Not: Camp or pitch a tent.
Violators of these rules will be cited by a California Peace Officer.

I just love it here.

Born and raised there, left in 79 and have returned only short visits to family. They are not friendly towards anything pulling a trailer. No tolerance what so ever. Every had a reason to stay more than 8 hours. I would argue that ticket in court. Would you rather have us get a little sleep safely or falling a sleep at the wheel.

This is to deter the 'camping' of groups of 'undocumented' people for periods of time. South Texas have some interesting rest areas...... four walls and no roofs. a small eve over the potty. This is to deter people setting up 'camp' inside the 'rest area building'. (keep an eye out for snakes and over head birds... )

Many places are like this. I think it is VA rest stops that say no overnight stopping or parking... And that was to everyone not just the four wheelers. Never seen it or heard of it enforced though. The sad part is there NEEDS to be a limit because people cannot sometimes be responsible for themselves. We have a camper here locally that "live" in our walmart parking lot. They migrate between the walmart by where I live to where I work... THIS is why they set limits. The other night they had a grill and all their camp chairs setup overlooking the highway. It must have been a great view of the sunset.

I have stayed overnight on 95 rest stops in Va. Don't know about other highways. I'm up and down 95 a couple times a year and use them when I'm alone.

It is interesting to see everyone's take on what is right or wrong and how each of us camp.

CA spends $25 billion annually on illegals. Why would they 'camp' there? With that amount I'd think they would provide better places for them to camp and live.

Ohio TP has water and elec hookups in their service areas plus a dump station. You pay first come first serv. Noot to bad for traveling. I would rather use a CG if we are all together, but alone going to a car show, any where safe works for me!

I drove past those spots and felt like they were pretty short. Has anyone used them? Did you have to unhitch?
