TV antenna reception on 2013 Surveyor SV 301

I'm sure others here have this same type antenna on their little home away from home. At first I was excited about the way it looked and that it would simplify my life by not having to crank it up and down. To say the least though, I've been very disappointed with it's performance. The stations that it does pull in are always pixilated and going in and out. Almost like it never totally locks in on the signal. I DO have the booster turned on. I also set the TV for antenna reception and do a scan. Any idea what I could look for that might be wrong?

Do you need to turn it?

MY HD antenna cranks up and then I need to turn it to find the strongest signal direction.

No way to turn it that I've been able to find. It's fixed in place on the roof.

A friend of mine has that same thing on the top of his RV. You can tell by the shape that it's directional, and yet there is no way to rotate it. I think they expect you to park your RV in the right direction. I'd get rid of that piece of junk ASAP.

Edit: I see that their website says it's not directional. Your experience would seem to indicate otherwise (as would the shape).

We had that same one. Our first issue was that it wasn't actually hooked up to the anything in our trailer. After we had it hooked up, it still was not worth much, even in my driveway. We had it removed and went with the Jack antenna, it is directional, but doesn't crank up and down. Much better.

Where inside would the antenna be, the pic looks like in a corner.
Have you checked the connections.

On my friends, there is no visibility of the antenna from inside the RV.

There isn't anything inside. The antenna is just mounted up on the roof. The booster is in the wall beside the TV. When the booster isn't turned on it picks up nothing. It actually works best when I'm parked in the driveway at home. Anywhere else I've been it's the same old pixilated mess.

So would you need to unscrew the antenna from the roof to check the connection or is it under the wings?

Yes, there are a couple of bolts through the support shaft that I assume you remove to check the connection at the antenna. I'm planning to do that this weekend along with checking the connections at the booster.

Mine wasnt connected properly in the junction box where the booster switch is located. They had the cable and the air channel lines reversed. Figured that out while installing our Jack antenna.

Did the cable reception work like it should? It works fine on mine. It's just the antenna reception that is not so good.

Never hooked it to a cable so cant answer that. We hooked the TV to a set of Rabbit ears borrowed from the neighbor camper and picked up channels. Thats when we decided to look into our "build quality"
