Walked past it a couple of times, glanced out the attic window at it a couple times, and glanced at it from the garage a couple of times as I was getting ready for a garage sale next weekend. Thought a lot about getting back on my stabilizer bar project and winterizing it. Anyone care to guess if my mind was really on a stinking garage sale?

Fire Starters--homemade

This is what I did today, not TO my camper, but for my camper experience.....

I know that some people [I guess I mean, men], like to be high-tech [lazy] pyrotechnists, so they use mechanical means...like acetylene torches or charcoal lighter fluid. Not me.

Part of me remembers decades ago when I was a girl scout, you know back in the stone ages, we went on campouts. A poor kid from the inner city, was able to get away from the 'reality of a dreary existance'....into a minimalistic world of survival and an opportunity to appreciate nature, not to mention how to become more self-sufficient. That was when I began my love affair with camping. I really loved my girl scout campouts, when my family could afford to send me, even though I got stuck with latrine duty ALOT!!!

My father was in the Army in the early 40's, and he said that he HAD to 'camp' for two years, in foxholes and tents, and he said he would never sleep in a tent ever again....so my girl scout outings were my ONLY chance to camp, until I became an adult and had children.

Over the years, I started out like alot of people...tent camping with the kids for many years, but when finances permitted....moved up to a pop-up...then a larger pop-up with A/C....then a Hybrid....than a regular travel trailer [several different models] until I found one I liked.

So when I camp, and use my homemade fire starters, I guess in a way it takes me back to simpler, slower, happier, less complicated way of life. Plus, the materials that I use, would otherwise end up in a landfill, but they are now re-purposed and useful.

MELT HALF USED CANDLES....I LIKE TO GET THEM AT GOODWILL OR ANY THRIFT STORE, YARD SALE, OR HAVE FRIENDS SAVE THEIR OLD CANDLE REMNANTS FOR ME {CHEAP AND INEXPENSIVE} I HAVE AN OLD SAUCE PAN THAT I ONLY USE FOR MELTING THE WAX

FILL CARDBOARD EGG CARTONS WITH DRYER LINT {ITS FREE}...DIDN'T LIKE USING PLAIN SAW DUST, BECAUSE WHEN I POURED THE HOT WAX IN, THE SAW DUST FLOATED, SO I ENDED UP MIXING THE SAW DUST WITH THE DRYER LINT...WORKED BETTER

JUST TEAR OFF ONE EGG CUP, LIGHT, ADD KINDLING, ENJOY....PLUS IF YOU USED SCENTED CANDLE PIECES, YOU CAN NOW ENJOY A NICE FRAGRANCE

I like giving these to my camping buddies....you know the ones that always have a campfire going.....

Fox Hole- I've read this "recipe" for years now and never have tried it mostly because we always seem to Forget to get candles at the thrift shop when wife goes. But, wife found some bags of candle beads (for making your own, I guess) from some crap party she went to and never did anything with them.

We're making our first ones this weekend!

Good luck....what are you going to use as filler....dryer lint? In a pinch, you can use cotton balls.

I'm going to use dryer lint and I'm also going to pickup a pack of gerbil bedding cedar wood chips. Plan to mix the dryer lint and wood chips together and see how it goes.

Use cupcake pan and cupcake liners instead of egg cartons.

Same here. I had to get the foam ones from my dad in a slightly more rural area.

I do love the simplicity of your answers. Great idea.

Nothing, was planning on camping next week. Plans changed due to my surgery being scheduled earlier, was originally planned after Thanksgiving.
Just enjoying the weather, sunny and in the 80s today!

Located it on my Florida RV Map, looks to be a very nice place to spend the winter. Would you recommend this to someone who has never been there before. I am preparing a letter of introduction at this time for we are planning on coming down around November 2014 and staying through March 2015. We have close friends who are moving down to the ST. Pete area on December the 10th of this year.
Thanks

Sorry it took awhile, just got home from the seafood festival. If you like warm weather and the gulf beaches you will love it. That is why I live here Here is a RV resort that is real nice and is right by Honeymoon Island SP which has been voted #1 beach in the USA numerous times.
http://www.carefreervresorts.com/rv-...orida/dunedin/
Plus you are minutes away from great restaurants, shopping etc. Google Dunedin, FL and you find all kinds of info to the area.
Here is the link to Honeymoon Island SP. Check out the photo pages.

If you need anything I will be more than happy to help, just let me know.
