Replaced the Progressive 5100 series Auto Transfer box with an updated -Q model.

Found out dealers and some repair shops are still ripping off their customers. I got two estimates to do the job. Both quoted two hours labor (@ $120 an hour) and parts at $255–$270. I ordered the box online for $149. Total installation time was 33 minutes, including removing and replacing all the stuff in the storage compartment blocking the ATS.

That’s a savings of almost $350…and the installation is so simple even a caveman could do it.

Replace the battery, have over 12 years on it, but we are setup permanent and are always plugged into shore power. We will see how long this one last

At a permanent site with full time electric hookup you wouldn’t even need a battery except in case the power goes out. The converter takes care of the 12V side and you’re not towing it so you don’t need to have the emergency brake working.

A battery is good for regulation. A converter isn't really a proper power supply.

A lot of rigs don’t care if you’re on shore power or not because without a battery(s) nothing requiring 12 vdc will be operable.

Taking it in for warranty work on the fridge. Instead of cooling it heats up.

Made the appointment 3 months ago. Earliest one I could get from dealer I bought it from wasn't until September.

X2 A battery is needed to give feedback to the converter. Without a battery, the converter will put out upwards of 16+ volts trying to charge something that is not there. A battery is needed to prevent voltage spikes from the converter which can damage circuit boards on the refrigerator, furnace, water heater & A/C's etc.

If the converter puts out 16+ volts under any conditions, it needs to be replaced because the voltage regulator has failed. A converter for LiFePO4 batteries should put out 14.6v maximum, and a lead acid/AGM converter should put out 14.4v maximum.

We’ll, we used that Coleman without a battery for probably 5 years. The only 12V stuff it had was the lights. It had no furnace or A/C and the little refrigerator only ran on shore power. The roof crank was a manual lift.

Without load, I bet you'd be surprised.
Largely the point, really. Hook up a battery. :-)

That said, 16v should not be too high for any pcb in a camper (thus the reports of people doing it). I realize they're not automotive (or military), which is what I'm more familiar with, but 16 or 18 or 20v *shouldn't* be an issue. The voltage ratings on components just aren't that close. Transients from devices turning on/off are the most concerning. Again, battery.

Anyway, thoughts from a random M.E. that worked at an electronics place for a dozen years. Take it or leave it....matters not to me.

The manufacturer of my converter says voltage should be 13.6 with the battery disconnected. I imagine if you called them and said their converter was putting out 16 volts they would say to replace it. 16+ volts is not normal from an RV converter under any conditions.

I'm surprised and impressed. Happily wrong as well.
Though, it's a progressive Dynamics. Not your run of the mill converter. :-)

Pulled out all the upholstered parts of the jackknife couch. The LW is going to make slip covers for the well used and well stained fabric. Was much easier than I had assumed. Even pulled the armrests etc. Just a square tube steel frame remains. Also installed one of the new scissor jacks (3 down and 1 to go) 4th one is gonna need some welding as previous owner dragged it hard and bent the mounting plate.

We love our 2020 34H5 but would like to upgrade the dash to the new angled model. Is there a kit or retrofit available?

Good luck with your new RV!

BoslerCW, you may be able to get a custom dash made by a custom car upholstery or hot rod shop. Ask if they can modify or fabricate you one if there is not one available from your manufacturer.

Got up on the roof and inspected and touched up the seals with Alpha Systems self-leveling caulk. The 5er was manufactured in April 2018 and the seals are doing fairly well. I inspect it twice a year. I’ll do it again in September.

I did notice that the rubber covering the WiFiRanger Sky3’s single antenna was gone (only the actual metal antenna is left) and there was some moisture in the box.

So I applied some of the self-leveling sealant to the base of the little antenna until I can contact WiFiRanger for support.

Changed the locks on all my pass through compartments to locks that are keyed alike to my RV Lock on the door. No more CH751's....

I just ordered a bunch of these for mine a couple days ago and will be installing them this weekend. They'll replace the 751 cylinder locks on the three storage compartment doors under my fiver, the outside kitchen door and the access door to my external auto leveling system.

Do you mind me asking, what type of locks you used and where you got them? I've been interested in doing the same type conversion.

I installed an RV Lock keyless entry system from link below. Excellent upgrade and highly recommend it.

https://www.amazon.com/RVLock-Keyles...NsaWNrPXRydWU=

To go along with this upgrade, I ordered the RV Lock cylinders from the RV Lock website link below. All you need to do is give them the key code off of your RV Lock system and they'll send you the matching baggage door locks.
