If you use your ladder...............

We purchased our camper used and ever since we have had it the rear ladder was loose, wiggling o the mounting plates.

In preparation for painting the front and rear of the camper because of the crappy faded Gel-Coat I removed the ladder. A closer examination showed the ladder steps were breaking on the sides where their mounting screw was holding still but he steps themselves were fracturing. (see the first 3 pictures)

I repaired the ladder by installing a SS Bolt w/ Nylon Locking Nut; through the ladder rails directly below the steps. In order to fall like they had been the entire bolt would have to move. (see remaining photos)

I also tightened up the mounting plates and applied Blue Locktite to the threads so they will not vibrate loose again as they had obviously done before. A bit of paint and it looks brand new.

Those end caps are replaceable. https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories...n/8540-CP.html

I also don't use the ladder to get to the roof. I carry & use my Little Giant (or similar) ladder leaned against the RV ladder to get to the roof. Saves from putting weight on those end caps which get brittle with age.

hahaha (laughing at myself) MANY THANKS for the information! I had NO idea those end caps were replaceable.

Im actually considering removing the ladder altogether and just using a telescoping ladder to get onto the roof for maintenance etc. My big hangup so far has been I have NO idea where I can store it while traveling. Every cubic inch seems to be used. (hahaha)

I hang my Little Giant on the RV ladder for traveling. That's the only weight the RV ladder carries.

Installed a 12v voltmeter with two 3.0 USB charging ports and on/off switch. Moved the TT battery to make room for a second propane tank. Upgraded the stereo speakers. So far so good.

Installed a Micro Air Digital thermostat. This is a big step up from the thermostat that came with our camper. Surprisingly simple installation. WiFi control on phone is a plus.

Curious to see how it fairs for you. Been looking at them to replace the crappy dometic one.

Loaded mine with supplies, checked the tires, and hit the CAT scales. All set to hit the road in the morning for a 7,000 mile round trip to the Washington and Oregon coast! A first for me.

We LOVE the coasts of OR and WA. Great seafood, cool temps with no bugs and some very scenic country. One of our favorite restaurants is in Depoe Bay, OR., Tidal Raves. You will need reservations which can be made online. Lunch or dinner, both are great. Plus it overlooks the bay and you can often see whales.
Where will you be staying?

Deception Pass state park in Washington and Nehalem Bay state park in Oregon. Then heading east to a couple of the more primitive national forest campgrounds.

If! And that is an if the road is open, Highway 20 through the Northern Cascades is a very scenic ride.
Try to avoid Seattle as the traffic is awful 24/7.

Outside Kitchen Organization

I need something different than the wooden shelf I made since when on the road stuff would fall off and roll out onto the ground when I got home to unload.

I found these on Amazon doing a basics RV accessories search

I decided to use machine bolts versus the double stick tape and little screws that came with them.

I had a challenging time holding them up to mark for holes that needed to be drilled and secure with the bolts since I did not use the double stick tape. My thought was if we buy a new trailer I could remove these and use again.

I came up with this to hold them in place

Over all it was about 2 hours of work and on a difficult scale about a 5 for one person due to drill and getting nut and lock washer on the bolt. I used a nut driver after several attempts with my hands. Back bolts needed long nut driver and front ones need stubby nut driver.

Here are some after pictures

I love those, I have one in our home kitchen to hold cell phones and other crap to keep it all off of the counter.

Please let us know how it works for you. It's not a cheap upgrade. The dometic is a piece of work to say the least.

You're correct, it is not a cheap upgrade. The dometic CCC2 is not intuitive and very frustrating to set. DW couldn't do it at all and now she will be able to adjust temps herself. To me, that will be well worth the expense.
I keep my air on to keep the humidity down so I have been checking it several times a day. So far, so good.

Ps. After posting this I will not be surprised to get another ticket from the grammar police.

Amen! The answer to the question "what isn't user-intuitive and user-friendly?". How many times do we see posted the question "why does my AC run when heat is selected?" (for example).
