Installed my own slideout topper today. Got tired of waiting for help and I wasn't going to pay CW $250 to install it. It wasn't that hard; just a bit awkward.

Well, since you had one hand free, any pics for us to see of the install process?

Sorry, no. I'm afraid all I have is after pics, and they aren't very good either. I can tell you that after I got the awning out of the tube, it was relatively lightweight, maybe 15 lb or so, so it wasn't heavy, just bulky. This awning was 12'9" in length.

Installed the Caframo Ultimate 757 12V 2-Speed 7 inch Fan in the bedroom. It's a nice fan made in Canada. It's very quiet, but I wouldn't want to sleep with it on. Tapped into the 12v wires to the under closet lights.

I put 3 of these in the bus just to try and not run the AC at night. They are a quality unit.

A little bit of maintenance

When we packed up to leave from the last campground, there were a couple of things that broke. So, I picked up the parts this morning and installed them when we got to the next one.
- Had a cracked handle on the black tank waste gate. That was an easy fix - unscrew the old one and screw on the new one. (Bought a metal one to boot.)
- The on/off switch for the electric heating element of my Suburban water heater was stuck on. I tried to push it OFF with a tool - SNAP! Needed a new switch. I was surprised how easy it was to change out though. I watched (a terrible) YouTube video on how to do so, and learned enough to do the fix. The switch just pries out with a screw driver. Pull the wires out far enough to access them (about 2 inches). Unplug the old switch, plug-in the new one, and push it back into place. Done! (On the video, the guy removed the gas tube? Totally unnecessary!)
- and lastly, while I was at it, I bought some better quality locks for the cargo doors. The originals were cheaply made and I had to fight with the key to get them to open! (Anybody want some 175 keys?).

Install Caframo fan last month, wired to my switch panel over the bed, and did a shoe storage under bed. Next on my list, shelves in large empty pantry.

I diagnosed a problem that recently developed.. Got pretty ugly here.
Two year old Vengeance Rogue 31V developed a really nasty odor in the bathroom during last week at Cherokee. Nothing leaking. Bath is otherwise immaculate.
Found out lucky us has an early Dometic 300 pottie. They were known for internal leakage, which then vents to atmosphere--inside of course.
I find out our pottie has been the subject of a "silent" recall for several years.
I've had a summer of pain from non-functioning Dometic products. Now one more thing.
A bit of info here. If you have a Dometic 300 with serial number that begins with "04xxx" you won't suffer this problem. If you see '3xxx thru 8xxx", you might share my misery.
More on Dometic's response tomorrow.
This pottie thing (following the awning "thing") is the straw that broke the season. Trailer is winterized and I'm done for the season. I like the trailer, but Dometic--not so much. Not right now anyway.
Now to study other brand heat- pumps. Click image for larger version

Mounted a couple spray can holders in the pass through. My brother made them for me.

Then at 8:30 last night we found a mouse trapped in the garbage can under the sink. I discovered that it had chewed its way through the PestBlock spray foam that I used to plug a wire/pipe entry hole and the essential oil of peppermint and Fresh Cab we have in there had absolutely no effect on it! All I had on hand to plug the hole was duct tape. Going to have to go to the dollar store to pick up some stainless steel wool.

Brass or copper mesh will work as well and are often less expensive than SS.

Thanks. I’ll see what they have at the dollar store. I used SS wool before but don’t know if I had filled the spot where it chewed through.

You are welcome, even Steel Wool works, just don't use it where it may get wet. As long as it stays dry they Will Not eat through it!

NOTHING likes eating steel.

If they want in, Fresh Cab, peppermint oil, pestblock and the like won't keep them out as you've now experienced.

I've had the same experiences and have said so here many times. The s/steel wool will help. A good Victor trap with peanut butter will get them.

Cats are the best defense. Really insignificant people seem to think it’s okay to drop cats anywhere on a country road. When the grass gets mowed (eight acres) I see mice and rats scurrying away. The cats seem to lay in wait around the barn, which means nothing gets close. Never used any anti-rodent stuff and never had a problem in the 25 years I’ve lived here.

The ancient Egyptians worshiped cats. Before that, they had a rat problem in their grain storage facilities so bad there was a famine, caused by the destruction of the grain by those rats.

So, they brought in cats..........The rat problem, for want of a better phrase, became "Cat Stuff". And the cats were worshiped thereafter.

There is no better solution to a mouse or rat problem than their natural predator...a cat.

One word of caution, if you have a cat DO NOT use a poison. It will remain active in the mouse carcass, so if the cat finds and eats the dead mouse, the cat will die too.

Funny you guys are talking about a cat. The trailer is stored at my cousin’s farm where I’m very fortunate that she gives me free storage. I was also thinking a cat would be great solution but I don’t want to suggest to her that she needs a cat to protect my trailer!

Anyway, I used stainless steel wool to filled the hole that the mouse had chewed in the foam and put a mouse trap in the adjacent cabinet where we found the mouse a couple nights ago. Peanut butter-baited mouse traps have worked before but I use them only as a last resort after the mouse has ignored my deterrents and really ticked me off!

Cleaned the roof today using Dawn and a scrub brush. My unit has been sitting in my drive since May and it accumulated a lot of crud . Didn't come as clean as I had hoped after all my hard scrubbing . I probably could use something else, but don't think I will as Orvan's recommendation was to only use Dawn.

Stay safe -
