Acadia Trip

We are planning a trip for the end of June, early July starting from Ohio. First stop will be 2 nights in Niagara Falls. Next it will be on to Acadia national park for 6-7 nights. From there it will be on to the Boston/ cape cod area for another 6-7 nights. Looking for advice on campgrounds, preferably close to the ocean, and things we must see.

We stayed at Smugglers Den in Southwest Harbor, quiet not many kids. Jordons in Bar Harbor for lobster quiche and blueberry pancakes. Besides the park itself, nice trails near Jordon Pond House, Bass Harbor Lighthouse, Echo Lake, Cadillac Mountain, etc. Enjoy

I'll be watching your thread with interest. My wife and I are planning to make a trip to Maine from Texas summer 2018.

We were just there this past Sep and stayed at Oceanside KOA at a waterfront site. We bought a self guided cd at the park hq, did sand beach one afternoon, did a foodie tour in Bar Harbor and a lobster boat trip. All cool!!

We live in WNY (near the Falls) and did this trip last summer. Acadia offers something for everyone, so it really depends on what your family's interests are. We are comfortable detaching from the grid, so we stayed in the park at Seawall in Southwest Harbor. The ocean was a short (easy/fun) bike ride away, maybe 5 mins away, with lots of wildlife. My 17 y/o daughter and I would bike down first think in the morning and then again at sunset to take pics of the deer. We also grilled burgers and dogs next to the ocean one evening. We did an afternoon of stand up paddling in Bar Harbor and had a great time at the Atlantic Brewery - great food and craft beer (wife and I). We hiked Cadillac Mountain and Big Head and spent a morning on Sand Beach. We also kayaked Echo Lake and biked the Carriage Trails. I recommend at least visiting Echo Lake for a day of swimming. The best advice that I can give you is to get to what you want to see early - sometimes before 8:00 am because it is crowded in the summer. And split the pull from WNY to Acadia into two days - you can overnight in Cabela's in Portland Me. That is a solid 10 hour pull from Niagara. Have fun!

When we go to Cape Cod We stay at Atlantic Oaks ( http://atlanticoaks.business.site/) in Eastham. Great place and close to the National Sea Shore and other historical sites.

We are in the process of planning a trip to Acadia from Florida arriving sometime in September. We are at 46 days and the wife just guessed how long at each location. I can see some days will be added.

X2 for Smugglers Den. We were there last August from PA for a week. Utilize the free bus service to downtown. Easy peeze. Check out other threads in this Northeast segment for Bar Harbor or Acadia. There are a few.

Btw Smugglers Den has a couple concrete pads if that interests you.

Visited Acadia twice last year. We truly loved it. Bar Harbor was very nice. We enjoyed the carriage roads. Loved the views and the hiking. You can't go wrong there.

We love the bar harbor campground. They have awesome sites, some that are overlooking the ocean and all sites are on the first come basis, no reservations ever! During high season you wil want to get there on a Monday or Tuesday. They have electric and water on most if not all sites. There is a shuttle stop at campground entrance servicing Bar Harbor and Acadia.

Take in the sunrise from Cadillac Mountain in Acadia. It's the first place to see the sun on the east coast. Well worth getting up before dawn!

Lots of great campgrounds on the cape. One that we enjoy is Scusset Beach state reservation. Scusset Beach is located at the southwest corner of the Cape Cod Bay. Enjoy 1.5 miles of beachfront, or take a walk along the jetty to watch ships pass through the Cape Canal.
It is a great spot to explore from.

Are you sure you don’t mean Smugglers Den?
