KOA by whiteface mountain, old forge camping resort, moose hillock near lake George, lake George RV park, if your not afraid to go without power and water then state parks are awesome like eighth lake, fish Creek, golden beach, lake Eaton, ausable, limekiln, cranberry lake and many others

Options for water and electric are limited in the ADK's. Old Forge Camping resort is our "go to" spot. Prices are reasonable, but we go there more in spring and fall when its nice to have electric (also get a cottage there a few times a winter for our camping fix when the snow is on the ground). White Face (Lake Placid) KOA is also very nice. We generally avoid the Lake George area - there are a bunch of campgrounds there with hookups, but they tend to be a little more $$.

In July and August especially, the state parks are awesome. Can't beat the price or the locations. We have a bunch of favorites - Lewey Lake, Moffitt Beach, Golden Beach, Eighth Lake, Rollins Pond, Nick's Lake... And the state is finally spending some money on park upgrades. Many of these places have new shower buildings and other improvements. You just have to get used to not having hookups. Adding a second battery was a super easy upgrade that gave us a lot more ability to camp without electric. Eventually added portable solar panels, an inverter, and a portable grey water tote. Now a 5-6 night stay is no problem. And inverter generators keeping getting cheaper if you want to go that route. Saving 40-50 bucks a night or more at the state parks pays for those upgrades pretty quickly.

But check out Old Forge for starters.

I realize everyone has a different opinion/experience but I've been to Old Forge Camping Resort twice, and won't go back for several reasons.
One of which is this example. Booked a pull through site last summer for 1 night after going to Enchanted Water Safari, on the way home from Lake George . The site was so unlevel, I had no choice but to unhook.Click image for larger version

We stayed at King Phillips campground in Lake George, nice clean park, rates were reasonable, we had a 50 amp. pull-thru site.

we stayed at KOA Lake Placid/White Face last week and it was fantastic. We don't typically stay at KOAs but that one was great. It's a little more pricey than a State Park.

We stayed at other places around the Adirondacks years ago, Ausable Chasm, Lake George (I'll have to get the name of the places) and Monroe State Park.
