Canadian Border crossing

We crossed at Sweetgrass/Couts this afternoon after a good run up I-15 from Idaho Falls, Id. I think we got the Royal Canadian welcome. It was raining so they had us park in a nice big dry shop and questioned us about our destination and if we had any illicit items to declare before they admired our truck and trailer. I told them where the hunting knives were and let them proceed while my wife, dog and I waited in a waiting area off the inspection bay.

They did not take our frozen hamburger, onions, potatoes or eggs. I didn't count my Snickers bars but they were moved around from where they were in the fridge.

Also my DUI conviction from 1973 didn't come back to haunt me.

We were kind of nervous but we were out of there in about 20 minutes.

jgourlie, we too are on our way to your neck of the woods. A month or so in Canada then on to Alaska. Hanging out in South Dakota for a few days now. I am interested in seeing that RR crossing in Lethbridge, built in 1905-7, 6000' long by 600' high, and still being used today. WOW! Talk about engineering!

It is pretty impressive...If you are feeling dangerous you can try and walk out on it, just hope a train doesn't come along.

At Christmas time CP rail did a train all decked out in Christmas lights and it stopped on the bridge in the dark and it looked like the train was just floating in the air.

We will be going through Lethbridge tomorrow 5/28 on our way north. Look for the BLUE Ram 1500 tucked in under a 5th wheel just a gittin it on.

We have OPP in Ontario. Having driven commercially in the mountains and having been pulled over they have portable scales and will detain you if overweight. Had it happen in Golden. Had to rent another cube van local and off load half the load to make them happy.

Sgt. Preston has died. His dog was left on a ice flow in Saskatchewan to meet his maker. The new RCMP is a lot different and more diverse than the old one was.

Why would they put King on an ice flow in Saskatchewan?
The TV show was filmed on Colorado! As a kid growing up in the fifties
I loved that show.

I chatted with a couple RCMP troopers in Milk River and they kinda rolled their eyes when I asked about Sgt. Preston.
No mention about my grossly overweight issue.

we just got back from a trip to Victoria, BC. it's been 30 years since we last crossed into Canada.

coming off the ferry, the officer was quite polite. but he then asked if we had any firearms. the few questions seemed to be aimed to trip us up by saying the wrong answer.
since i've read many threads about not taking firearms into Canada, i didn't have any nor did i mention that i had a CC permit.
but i lived in California for 55 years so i'm used to limitations regarding firearms.

being prepared for these types of questions made to entry uneventful and we had an excellent time in Victoria.
