Thats not bad considering our dollar bit the big one this past month and my last exchange when it was higher was 30 cents on the dollar.

Just returned from Canada at the Casino I exchanged $100USD and received $130CAD plus $1.40USD back...When using the CC I also got a good rate but
they charged a fee ranging from 1.40 to 2.00USD for exchanging...The Casino
charged nothing...Got good gas prices at Costco 99.4 a liter plus exchange rate about $2.92 a gallon....You can also get a Costco
card in AM or CA and the money will exchange back and forth with no fees at Costco...Hopes this helps... returned 8/15/15

All the above is true, but on my recent trip to Newfoundland I ran into 3-4 camp grounds that only took cash so maybe $100 CDA might be safer

You have to remember that "Newfs" are something that hangs off Canada and since they got "Oil" they have got more independent. Great place to visit and if you want to visit wilderness go to Gross Morne National Park and see the first Viking settlements in NA. Forget Columbus.

I live in Niagara Falls...

Every merchant will take your US $, however, the rate of exchange they give you varies (always in THEIR favor).

Do yourself a favor and exchange your cash at any bank...or use your credit card and pay their exchange rate.

Remember you do not have a right to use foreign currency in another country, it is up to that land to accept that currency. That small business has to get rid of some countries currency and still make a profit. This forum concentrates on USA/Cdn issues, however, many areas (ie Niagara Falls) have many visiting tourists that bring their home currency. What small business wants to deal with the exchange of some small foreign currency. Use credit cards where ever possible.

In my recent experience at the Falls in July they will gladly accept American money, but change will be Canadian. That is in their favor! Use a credit card if at all possible.
