Question Cash?? Credit Card??

Just wondering, how many use cash, how many use credit cards
or both when traveling?
I usually use a debit/credit card and carry small amount of cash but
I know, from looking at some of the campground listings, that some
are cash or check only.
I know we can go to Walmart and get cash with a purchase, which is
what we intend to do if we need more.
Just curious how others manage finances while on the road.

We carry both and try to use cash for fuel due to having our credit card compromised while traveling. I have a safe installed in my fifth wheel for cash, camera, 'puter, and the like so we do not have to take all that with us every time we leave the rv.

Not to Hijack the thread, but where did you install your safe?

Back on task...

We have a CC that gives us 5% cash back on gas anywhere...guess what we use to pay for gas?

We also cart the checkbook with us but honestly? We have written maybe 10 checks in the last year.

Try to squirrel a few $20 away for when the debit card does not work - which, interestingly happened over the 4th. The small CG we stayed at did not accept anything but cash!

Use credit card mostly, cash for food usually and when cash runs low, use debit card to replenish cash. Checks for large unexpected purchases like TOWTA's Caddy last year on the way home from Goshen, Moline, IL, Trenton, MO, Carlisle, AR.

Use credit card mostly, we get cash back. We also take about $100 in ones and five so we have the right change to pay camp fee in envelope.

I try to pay cash for fuel because of the six cents extra for credit cards some places charge for not dealing with me face to face.
Credit/debit for everything else because that is what the money manager wants.

So both!

Credit card only in emergency. Cash is king, debit card ranks second. Thank the good Lord, an emergency requiring use of a credit card hasn't presented itself.

Credit card for fuel and campgrounds, cash for everything else. Like Filthy beast I have a safe hidden in the MH for my cash.

Thought I was the last person that used cash for food, coffee, and other small items. Rare to see anyone in a drive through with cash any more.

Cash or debit cards here. We try to stay far, far away from credit cards.

Credit cards are evil.

If we run low on cash (and nope, we don't carry a lot) we hit an ATM machine.

Credit card for fuel, park fees, and eating out and large purchases (cash back is generally $300+ per year). Debit card for groceries and cash when I am low. Cash for fast food, snacks, coffee stops and other smaller purchases. Credit cards are paid in full each month so no interest. It works for us. YMMV

Oh, good idea. had thought about a hiding spot for cash I didn't want to
carry around but didn't think about the camera and laptop and it is a
pain to always make sure they are hidden in the truck. And truck not always a safe place either. Hmmm.

I remember the pay cash for gas and get a discount thing from sometime in the past, but I don't remember seeing any stations lately offering the option.

Is it offered locally for you or only on the open road?

Im a cash for everything kinda guy....my wife NEVER has cash (hmmmmm! Lol)...on trips I preferr the amex or the rewards card (used wisely and if you have the right cards the perks can be significant!)....but I will say recently while in florida, our bank blocked our debit card and amex did also citing an absurd number of frauds. They would NOT turn them back on!...my bank let me do a ONE TIME cash advance to another bank for vacation money. ..but I just dont like thousands of dollars out in the open...safe or not......but no one declines cash!

Actually there are some gas stations around here (Alberta) that only do credit or debit, no cash and our County CG only accepts cash. Everything else is paid based on rewards.

It is a 6 cent fee add to the per gallon price at the pump.

Say 3.99 a gallon for cash then using a credit card would be 4.05 a gallon.

I understand they are allowed this fee to compensate them for taking a CC instead of cash, Pilot truck stops are just one Pilot does one price in red the other in green.
.

I saw several places when we were out on our long trip last month that showed the two prices.

More credit and debit than cash. I usually use my AMEX frequent fliers card for most items and pay it off monthly. I usually get enough miles to upgrade to first class for the once a year that I fly to visit my daughter.
