I run a hide away CB with a hidden CB antenna. Basically only the mic (with a couple of extra controls on it) is visible. Everything else is behind the dash. The 'antenna' is just a box that taps into the trucks FM antenna and also provides some tuning to protect against SWR. The range sucks at only 1-2 miles, but it's the most minimalist approach I can do that keeps the DW happy that I don't have any 'extras' laying around the truck.

I have my antennae mounted on a bracket attached to the inside lip of the fender where it meets the hood. It gets good ground that way, it is opposite my radio antennae so it looks decent, and no paint scratched or ugly holes showing somewhere on the outside of the truck.....you would have to raise the hood to see the mounting screw holes.

It "gets out" fairly well (a couple of miles), so I can keep up with local traffic concerns without getting too much CB jibber jabber from further away.

I use a Cobra 19 Ultra that has been in several of my vehicles over the last 20 years.

Interesting post. I travel with CB on as well and when I see a Rv I usually try to get their attention. Is 19 mostly the one used or is there another channel perhaps I should monitor that rv uses?

I had a Cobra Classic 29 in my Winnebago. Moved the antenna from the ladder to a hood mount and saw better SWR. Removed it when I sold the Winnie and never even thought about installing it in the Forester.
Out west here, nobody uses them except off-roaders and they are switching to HAM. Had a sign in my rear window CH19 and .520 for HAM 2m. NO one ever called! Also have a Technician ticket for HAM and carry a Yaesu FT60r for use as a scanner.

I use the Midland 2 in 1 to get by with a K40 magnetic antenna on the roof to get by. I mostly listen to Ch 9 with the trucks and emergency situations. I use an earphone in my left ear so the dw is not bothered with the static or talk. It paid off 2 yrs ago in Virginia, fatal accident 20 miles ahead and we got off the interstate and ran parallel hit some traffic but not stuck while the road was shut down for 4 hrs.
