Going Scouting

My gal and the pups are going to make a run up the mountain today and scout out some boondock sites. Weather is warming up here in sunny southern Arizona and top of the mountain is 9500ft elevation and a lot cooler. There was a bad forest fire up there last summer and I here things have changed a lot. There are four different sites I like to camp so we'll see what they look like. We'll go up to the end of the pavement and then take our Polaris Ranger on in the rest of the way.
This mountain is Mt Graham and towers over the Gila Valley. One of our many sky islands here in southern Arizona.

Well that was a bust. After last years fire the resulting erosion from the heavy rains really tore a lot of places up. Two of my favorite CG's are still closed and it looks like there is only one place to get water on the whole mountain where we used to have four water sources. It is bad dry up there this year and I anticipate the FS closing the mountain soon because of the fire danger.

But me and my gal and the pups had a nice ride and picnic lunch up there. This was Judy's first big outing since hip replacement surgery 6 weeks ago and it wore her out.
Next trip is second week of July somewhere north of here. Maybe Zion maybe Yellowstone, who knows!
