Question Myrtle Beach Christmas Trip Route Suggestions

We have Christmas reservations at Myrtle Beach State Park this year. We are planning on leaving out from southern Indiana on Friday afternoon, and taking our time getting over there for check-in Sunday afternoon. I have planned a route with two stop overs at interstate welcome center rest stops along the way, for evening sleep stops. We will stop as needed probably every couple hours to rest and stretch, as we are not really in a hurry to get there. I think my timeline looks reasonable, but this is our first trip of this length, so would love any suggestions on anything I may not be considering from the well seasoned travelers.

After we leave Myrtle Beach on Thursday after Christmas, we have 5 days scheduled before we have to be home. Initially we was thinking about heading down to Florida for a day or two, then work our way back. But after thinking about it more, that's an awful long excursion. Was thinking about taking a lazy route back home, maybe go ahead and stop at a campground here and there for a night or two.

We have never ventured this far from home before, other then Gatlinburg, TN, so really don't know of any sites or attractions that would be nice to stop at. We have a 6yr old, so if anyone has a nice route with a few campgrounds to recommend it would be great. Being that it is winter, we figured avoiding the mountains would probably be ideal, since we don't know what the weather is going to bring. If it's nice, we could head back that way, but didn't want to make it the only plan.

Thanks for any suggestions anyone might have

Charleston, SC is very nice to visit if you like history and a colorful City.

Just double check that the welcome centers allow over night stops some do some do not. Stopping every couple of hours is great and what we do but look more at drive time of 16 - 20 hours. We average about 50 miles each hour stopping every few hours

The RV site looks to be averaging 66 miles an hour I doubt that I could average that with out stopping other than for quick fuel in an RV.

We travel the SC 38 to SC 501 to SC 544 all the time it is not interstate but it is 4 lane but watch you speed limit through there.

MB has a lot of touristy things to do and see. Temps are a crap shoot that time of year it could be cold (30s) or warm (70s) who knows.

Myrtle Beach Christmas Trip Route Suggestions

Check the weather forecast before you leave. Check all your way points as well as your destination. This was us a Myrtle Beach this past New Years. We were at Ocean Lakes.

Nice KOA in Mt. Pleasant, about an hour or so south of MB.
Easy access to Charleston. If you have a couple of days, don't miss the opportunity to visit. Lots to do and see. Fort Sumpter, Patriot's Point, Charleston Battery....

places to stopnear myrtle beach

Check out James island campground outside of charleston SC. They have a festival of lights that your little one would love. It is about 3 miles long through the park at night with beautiful light show and Santa's Village.

Yep, we woke up to a few inches of snow a few years ago in Feb. Melted by noon.

We do a southern trip each New Year from Kansas. Plan on an overnight stop with full hookups on your way home about where the freezing weather starts up. You will need to drain and rewinterize . We usually do that at the Memphis KOA.
