Need WAZE maps help!

In a recent thread I asked about a google maps issue (it won't print if you choose the print directions only option.)
Several folks recommended WAZE.com maps.
I'm trying it now but my map shows NO road names or numbers??
I put in a starting and ending address and it pops right up on the map but none of the streets shown have labels!
I've looked all over the page and can find no way to turn on street labels.
Also the directions just names roads but no numbers and no real turn by turn directions.

Out in the boonies of KY (and most states) most roads have a state or county number.
WAZE isn't showing them on the map which makes it lacking.....

Also I'm unable to add a 3rd and 4th stop.
Surely it's capable of more than just A to B navigation?
Any pointers?

I use Waze all the time, It is Android Auto into the screen on the 21 F-150. Never use the provided navigation from Ford. Yes, the road names are there, make the screen bigger. I believe there is a turn by turn preview but never used it. You do know Waze is interactive, fellow Waze users give real time road information, like "junk in the center lane .5 mi ahead ahead" and then it will ask you to verify. BTW I am 75 and keep getting amazed at the stuff these kids come up with.

I wonder how many times your parents uttered the same words

I too use WAZE and prefer it over Google Maps. The interactive feature has paid off numerous times. I find Google Maps to be annoying with it's "Commercial Clutter" on the screen. Waze is more simple, just showing the road, route changes, and turns.

Want simple? Waze is the answer.

I use Apple Maps and Waze. I think they are the easiest and useful. I’ve tried Google and RV Life and do not care at all for either.

I'm looking at it in my browser on a 27" monitor and the road numbers are not there.
I'll keep trying but probably going back to google maps shortly.... most county roads around here are just a number. If WYZE won't show the number it's not an improvement for me anyway.

Waze uses the same maps as google maps, both Google products. On the waze PC you have to zoom in for road names.

But in looking at the PC version it seems Google made changes to the print function there too. the button that let you print and get turn by turn is no longer appearing, only the save button which then lets you start it on your phone or Android or apple auto devices.

in reality these changes on Maps and Waze make sense, no one really prints directions any more, and with phones and auto interfaces it makes more sense to invest in the interfaces not the print functions.

Well Said, but I think KyDan wanted to print out some detailed local maps with directions. I remember when you could get printed county maps, with details down to the township level. A thing of the past.

Looks like it's not possible, at least according to Google Support - https://support.google.com/waze/thre...nt-a-map?hl=en

If you want printed maps it's probably best to go back to the internet map grand daddy of them all... Map Quest.

https://help.mapquest.com/hc/en-us/a...t-your-My-Maps

Man that brings back memories of the pre-smart phone days, planning vacations on Map Quest and burning half a ream of paper printing out the directions for the entire trip to take with. Back when "I'll take shotgun" also meant you were willing and able to be the navigator and can read maps. [emoji16]

Although I never had to worry about a cell signal or dead phone batteries. Hit the 7-Eleven, get a Big Gulp and hit the road, windows down (had an old F250 flatbed farming truck with no AC.)... Was during this era I "was on a corner in Winslow, AZ with my flatbed Ford" [emoji1787]

Please keep in mind that WAZE nor Google Maps have a choice for larger vehicles. They can guide you to bridges that can cause overweight or height issues. Hate to be flat/dolly towing and have to disconnect to turnaround.

Try RVParky trip planner. Very easy to use and you can add as many way points as you want. It also updates across all your devices that you are logged on.

It will look that way when you are setting it up because the highlighting of the route(s) obscures the names. This setup period is where you can select the proposed alternate routes or drag the highlighting around to select different route segments. Once you say Go, that highlighting disappears and you can see the road names.

You can also see the road names in setup and driving modes if you select the "turn-by-turn" view which has text paragraphs for each segment.

Does anyone know if RvParky requires a paid subscription? Can you input your rigs stats to guarantee an rv safe route?

RV Parky is free, but it just seems to use Google Maps directions, has no RV settings.

The RV Life planner is very conservative in RV routing. But it does show low bridges, so you can adjust your trip as needed.

I use Garmin RV gps for travel and Open Roads for fuel stops. Never a problem only 1 complaint, haven’t been able to get Open Roads ap on my F350 screen. I update Garmin 3-4 times a year.

Yes, RVParky is free and yes you can set your RV stats in your Dashboard, just pick on My RV. You can also do reviews and add pictures of campgrounds.

I just tried print text only from google maps directions and you are right it doesn't show the turn by turn there any more. It only prints the header and notes.

If that is all you are looking for. When in google maps you click the route and it shows turn by turn directions. If you are on a windows machine you can use the snipping tool. Windows key+shift+S should automatically open it for you. Or just open it from the menu. Then you click and drag to highlight the area you want. And you can save it as a jpg file. Then just print the new picture.

Beware of using Google maps and waze if you have a large camper. The fastest way for a car isn't always the best way for an RV. I use a garmin for directions and also have waze up and running for other real time alerts.

Hi- I just thought I'd check back in and say thanks for all the suggestions.

First it's been educational and interesting intel from many of you!
This thread began with me just trying to google map out a motorcycle day trip.
I have used google maps for years and being pretty familiar with it I was able to get what I wanted on the PC screen pretty easily and fast.
Problem came when I tried to print it.
One issue with google maps (and maybe some others) is you can set a route and you can drag the route and get a custom trip
BUT if you save it or share it Google will revert back to what it thinks is the best route.
IE- I want back roads and no interstate.
Google accepts my drag and drop but if I save the trip and open it later google has gone back to the fastest route.
The only way to prevent that is add way points along the route that makes google stick with the plan.
That's why I was going to print the step by step.
I can print it using copy paste of the steps or print with maps as we've discussed.

FYI- I just now opened RV Life Trip Wizard and it's working pretty well.
Again- I just add way points at critical intersections where I what to turn and take the path less traveled. I'll see how it works for printing steps but I think it's going to work. It also does a pretty good job of showing road names and numbers when I'm planning the route. One thing... google maps will show points of interest when you zoom in like a Dollar General out in the boonies along my route. Trip Wizard does not show them unless you search for them by name but if you don't know what's there it's kinda hard to search for a POI that you didn't know existed!!

Happy Trails!

Google Maps Tip: Once you have your trip setup like you want it (back roads and etc.) Copy and save (or bookmark/favorite) the complete URL (website address). You can email and/or text the url to your phone/others. The URL is likely to be pretty long.

In the future paste the exact full URL into the a web browser (computer or phone) and you get the exact route you planned.

All your routing is in the URL/web address.

However, if instead you "save" the route in Google Maps, it only saves the waypoints so it will regenerate the route when you open the saved trip and not remeber your exact routing.

Thanks for the Tip!!
Final follow up.... I got my trip on screen the way I wanted it but I still wanted
to print a step by step just as a back up.

I choose to print with maps and page 1 printed correctly with steps and a map. Pages 2 and 3 were blank!!! @#$%^&!
Yes I know I can copy paste the steps into a word processor and I have done that BUT it is not the same as google printed step by step used to be. In the word processor the copy paste from maps comes out all wonky with different size fonts and weird line spacing. It's usable but really a PIA to have to clean up before printing.

I've texted the trip to my phone but the worry is cell service in the boonies is sketchy. I will load the trip into my maps app on my phone but no changes will be possible on the road due to lack of cell service on much of the trip.

It's all part of the adventure!
