We have travelled this direction several times towing and I77 is MUCH flatter and MUCH straighter than I79. Mapping software says it is 20 minutes further to take I77 but we find it to be no noticeable difference. Traffic around Cleveland is no problem with the express lanes, with Charlotte NC being the only other large city to pass through. There are a couple of tunnels and a couple of pretty good climbs/descents but nothing a normal rig has any problems with.
Clev is no problem except during rush hours. Char can be ugly at any time. With a diesel it is easier on I79 IMO, with a gasser it may be a different story.

We have driven from Buffalo to FL 6 times in the past 7 years. We take 90w to 79s to 19, 77, 26 to 95.

I make that trip twice a year, just to PA, not NY. Only 1 steep hill at the VA/NC border on 77. Lots of places for gas and diesel truck stops. Wytheville VA generally has the least expensive fuel on the trip but the 2 Flying J plazas have Bio-Junk. Rt 19 in WV only 73 miles of it but cops love writing tickets there.

Since NC has upgraded 73/74 I have taken that around Winston-Salem for different scenery and picked up 95 at Lumberton. No more Greensboro traffic.

Take I-75 down the west coast of Florida. You avoid tolls and a lot of traffic. Take 41 across the south part of the state. If you head south to Homestead you will avoid Miami altogether. Going across the Everglades should not be missed. Take an airboat ride in the Everglades. We did that with our grandchildren this summer and really enjoyed it!
