Pre-Drive Your Route With Live Video Application of Google Maps Street View

"Try it - you'll like it!"

Google Maps Streetview Player

Be sure to check Advanced Options and select the correct mode (driving, biking or walking). Perhaps pick a reasonable length route for a trial run.

It will be less choppy if you increase the frame speed (FPS), as long as you have sufficient bandwidth.

A good way to preview entrance and exit signs, odd turn maneuvers, campground entrances, and such?

That is pretty cool! Thanks for posting that!

I tried it from my house to a nearby state park and it is pretty accurate!

I tried it from home to work. Obviously the route it chose was to avoid any cops...I would have never thought to take the pig trails to work...it stopped 2 blocks short of destination.

Even the with negative comments. Technology is cool.

Possibly were you set to walking rather than driving? Walking seemed to be the default setting for some reason.

Nice toy but the images are mixed up and looks to be at least five years old. I do use Google Earth a lot for my trip planning and it was a lot of help on my Alaska journey last summer. It pretty much covers the entire ALCAN route.

The images come directly from Google Maps. Some routes have been mapped more recently than others.

Actually it's the same for Google Earth. Some satellite images are neeer than others.

Just tried the link from my home to my work destination ~ appears to be over 2 yrs. old due to road construction in the video. Also, the video was all over the road (a back country 2 lane) like a drunk was driving! LOL!!
Good color though and fairly accurate for that distance.

Not that I know of, but you can run the web site from your smartphone.

It looks like there is an Android version, I didn't try to download it.

Like others, I mapped from home into town. It didn't show the first mile, probably because it is a seecondary road. The area where we had construction last summer was definitely out of date, although it has been updated on Google Maps.

I noticed it mixed in photos of crossing roads at intersections of overpasses/underpasses.

It likely uses GPS coordinates along the route to pull photos from.
Unfortunately for the user, the route I chose included all overpasses but when it got to those overpasses, there were pictures from the underneath route mixed in and it made it look like you were going under something when you really weren't. Not good if you were using for height considerations.

Super idea though that still needs some tweaking.

Still a very good reason to plan ahead by using google maps street view. My gps had me turning right to head in direction of a different city when I needed to go left!
