Puerto Penasco Mexico for Spring Break

We have a group going down to Puerto Penasco Mexico (Rocky Point) until the end of March.
It is located south of Arizona about 70 miles from the border of Lukesville Border crossing which is located south of Ajo, AZ.

We are staying here.
Playa de Oro RV Park

We usually go with about 20 rigs for relaxation on the beach.
Safe to travel and no issues entering or leaving.
This is considered a Safe Zone.
Anyone?

Looks like fun. I am right in the middle of some spring projects or I would think about going.

The Gila Valley has a lot of farming, mainly Cotton and Hay. Copper mining is the main employer. Safford/Thatcher is our big city with all the shopping. Several smaller towns scattered the length of the valley. I live in Fort Thomas which isn't much, just a wide spot but lots of homes up off hwy 70 to the south. No real RV resorts but we do have nice RV spots at Roper Lake State park. Mount Graham at 10,500 feet towers over the valley with several nice campgrounds up there. It's a tough pull with steep grades and switchbacks but nice and cool once you get all the way up.

I have been to Rocky Point many times on Church mission trips building starter homes for Mexican families. Never really been there as a tourist though.

We rented a house on the beach a couple times there. It is absolutely beautiful. Would love to take the fifth wheel there but would have safety concerns. Can't wait to here about your trip. Have fun and be safe!

No safety concerns. No worse than any US city.
I have been going down for the past 6 years in March and always enjoy our stay. It is nice when you travel and stay with a group which I do. We have 22 rigs going this year and we usually get our rigs washed and waxed for $1.50 a foot and we have a fishing trip planned as well as many group dinners in the campground and downtown.
People are great.

Leaving in about an hour.

I've stayed at the Playa del Oro numerous times over a 10 year period with no trouble. I would say spring break would not be the time I would go, but that's me. We have camped at all times of the year in Rocky Point, as Puerto Penasco is also known. If you are into crowds and a lot of drunk people, you'll be fine during spring break. There is shopping, food and tons of alcohol. The locals almost expect you to bargain with them on the price of merchandise you want to buy, so don't necessarily accept the first price you are given when you ask "how much?" or "cuanto questo?" including any of the fresh fish and seafood that you can purchase right on the walkway along the ocean. We have had shrimp and other seafood we purchased fresh (that day's catch) from the vendors and never gotten sick from it. What I did get sick from was the water. I mean really sick. After that, we started taking adequate amounts of water from home for drinking, bathing and cooking.

Have fun and if you are going to go out to eat, there used to be a restaurant called El Capitan that is literally at the top of a very large hill in the market are and has a fantastic view. The food there is very good. Make sure you buy Mexican insurance for your TV and camper or MH. We always bought it in the US at a gas station in the tiny town right at the border crossing (called Gringo something). Cheaper than buying it in Tucson (where I used to live).

What do you think will happen to you in Mexico?
It isn't any worse than your home town.

Food and water is great. Many of you watch too many old movies.

Here is a few pictures of my terrible time there. Hated to leave yesterday.
Boring eating shrimp every day. Fishing trip was $45 per person and we caught more fish than we really wanted.
Park right on the front row of the beach full hookups and free wifi.

Mexico is not for me. Different people like different places. Me I would never feel safe in Mexico, but you are right about NC. I go to Walmart on a Saturday afternoon and I think I'm in Mexico, I don't feel safe there. I'm not going across the border into Mexico, but do what you like I always say. Have fun camping

You have no rights in Mexico.

I grew up in southern Arizona, went to school walking distance from agua prieta. Been across the line more times than I can count.

The way relations are with Mexico now there's no way I'm crossing the line if I can help it.

Mexico can be a great place, and it can be a nightmare. Lived near the border most of my life.

Rocky Point is one of the safer places once you get there. The danger is getting/leaving there. Large travel groups are advised.

We stopped going to Mexico when we had friends that were stopped and robbed on the road, and another that was arrested when the police told him he parked illegally at a road side stand and he tried to argue with them and not pay the 'fine' they were trying to extort. Took several days and a lot of bribe money to get him back.

Do your homework, travel in groups, don't travel at night, and be careful where you stop.

Lots of folks still go there every year, but we will never go there again. There is nothing down there we need
