travelng through Glacier National Park with travel trailer

I am wondering if I will be able to pull a 25 foot Mini Lite through glacier NP on US Route 2 going west to east. My intent is to enter from the west on way home from Washington in early August, leave the trailer in St. Mary or East Glacier and then go up to the Going to the Sun Highway west then back east before picking the trailer up and heading home. I know the Sun highway is restricted but do not know about Route 2. I am pulling with a 2014 Silverado and have not had any issues with it, but do not know if US 2 has any restrictions.

We stayed at St Mary KOA in late May 2016 headed for Alaska. Going to the Sun Road was not open yet. We travelled from the KOA to Browning on 89 then took 2 through Essex and on to West Glacier, leaving our 37’ Flagstaff at the KOA. It is a crooked, narrow road but very doable with your rig.
Several mornings and evenings we travelled the 12 miles it was open on the east side and saw a lot of wildlife.
Travel safe

You are fine on US 2. We traveled the full length with our 35' plus toad.

You will not be able to pull your TT on the Highway to the Sun. There are length restrictions there. It's worth camping locally for a couple of nights and spending a day doing that loop and seeing other parts of the park. We camped on the west side at the KOA because that entrance is where the main lodge is, but either side and either direction will work.

There is one section of Hwy 89 southbound, a few miles south of St Mary, that is a little nerve wracking. There is a short section that has a steep drop off with no guard rails and a very narrow shoulder. The only way around it is Hwy 464 from Babb down to Browning to Hwy 2.
Otherwise Hwy 2 and 89 are a great drive.

US #2 is wide open for travel! In regards to "Going to the Sun Road" the Park Service East and West entrance have parking lots for Cars & RVs! Park at either one and take the "FREE National Park Service Shuttle the Entire way across the Sun Highway"! You can also Pay and take the "Red Bus Tours"! Do both if you have time! Youroo!!

Driving Glacier

I was at Glacier last Fall, September time frame, and the road construction was wicked. The bus situation is not much better. You have to transfer from the large bus to the small bus about 1/4 of the way to the top of the "Road to the Sun". Then transfer again to continue going east or west, your choice of direction. Once you get to that mid point, you then have to transfer back to a large bus to get to the far end of the route. If you have the time and the money, the Red Bus is your best bet. They seem to have a "right of way" and special parking at any of the stops. Just remember that you have to get back to where you left your vehicle. Your Chevy Silverado will meet the parks maximum length requirements, but it is a tough drive and very slow. To find reasonable parking if you drive in, you need to be there early in the morning, usually by 7:00 AM. You should plan several days to do Glacier National Park highlights. There are a lot of short hikes from 1 mile round trip to 10 miles round trip to interesting places. Bear spray is a necessity along with plenty of water. Good luck and enjoy the park. BTW: the only glaciers left in existence in Glacier is actually in the Canadian sister park. That drive is also and interesting one. No guard rails on the road is typical for a large number of roads in the western US. You get use to it. It is best to fuel up outside the park. If you are visiting multiple National Parks, purchase a National Park Pass because it will be cheaper. Only one is needed for the vehicle. That covers everyone in the vehicle. Good Luck, Plan well, enjoy your time in Glacier National Park and take a lot of pictures.

We loved Glacier National Park! "Going to the Sun Road" is a must do!!!! Take the smallest vehicle you can. They have size restrictions for a good reason. If your vehicles are too big, take the parks transportation, and allow plenty of time to get to Logans Pass. Check the road's open/close status. Bad winters can keep the road closed until mid-July! Enjoy!

It's been years since I've been to Glacier but I remember the east side at St. Mary's wasn't near as pretty as the West. At the time I had a tent and stayed at Fish Creek Campground in the park. Not sure about RV facilities.

MartiB, you are correct. It rains on the west side of the park, the east side, not so much. It's still a very pretty park!

This thread got me ready to go again. Last year we had to cancel out because of the fires, they closed the park. Ready to go again, just need to wait for winter to end and get the 5th wheel de-winterized.
