Hello, last week my husband and I bought our first RV: a used 1989 Rockwood Class A 32 foot motorhome with the side dinette and full deluxe features package. It was $90k brand new; we paid $5k. Ford 460 engine, John Deere chassis, fiberglass roof and sides. Carfax said 4 owners, no accidents, no odometer rollbacks It was a sweet deal with only 33,000 miles on it. Her name is "Clora Mae", in honor of my late grandmother.

We've got some work to do and we don't know what we don't know! But we're good at doing research and we've both got lots of DIY experience.

The RV spent a week at the dealership getting the engine and AC and brakes checked out, plus a full tune up. Everything looks great they said, so we're really relieved about that.

The interior is in pretty decent shape. Sofa cushions and side dinette cushions need recovering or replacing. Woodwork is solid oak so we won't be painting that. But wall coverings and valances need updating.

The manufacturer, Rockwood, went out of business not long after our RV was built. The company that bought them out only bought the name, not the products, so there isn't any ongoing support for the brand. A lot of the documentation that came with our RV has water damage so we are having to find out things via the Internet verses having a company we can call with questions.

About us: we've been married 32 years, 6 children, 7 grandchildren, spread over 3 Midwestern states. Wanderlust is one of our love languages.😊Click image for larger version

Welcome to the forum and congrats on you MH purchase. You mentioned that manual had water damage I hope its was not caused by water leakage in the camper. Being the age the camper is this is one area to really check for. Enjoy Later RJD

yes, there is some water damage, rear driver's corner.
I'm concerned about mold but my husband says if we seal the roof where it has leaked, and generously wipe the corner with bleach, that the mold will starve and die. I'm not sure but I don't have experience with leaks. Click image for larger version

Thank you! We're planning on camping at the end of June for an overnighter to test her out! I'm excited and a little apprehensive but I know it takes time to adjust to a motorhome.

Will take some time and you will find things you have and don't need, things you need and don't have, etc. will take a while to get settled in as far as how you use it etc and what you should have with you.

Relax and don't get overwhelmed [emoji3]

Take your time, enjoy, and start the lists now. Lots of helpful info and people on here to assist with questions as well.

There are some good checklists here as well. Can use the search to find them.

One that will come in handy is the before you head out camping and before you leave the campground checklist. That will ensure you don't leave anything you need at home and don't forget to check / do something before you leave the campground.
