Bought a Windjammer

Hello,

One and all. I am a new RV'er - We own a 2015 Rockwood Windjammer 3006 WK. So, far it is relatively roomy and seems to tow well behind my 2005 RAM 1500 5.7L Hemi Max. It is attached to a weight-distributing hitch (flat bar). We took a trip for our son's wedding near Pittsfield, MA. Around 500 miles through some beautiful early fall weather. This was the maiden voyage to asses what the RV center would fix - documented, and repaired. Winterized, and now we are looking to replace the Queen Size mattress with a Gel-filled foam.

Yes, I understand that weight would be a consideration, however, We have to sacrifice due to some medical issues.

I will retire after the new year and will work on outfitting the trailer for some R&R away from the bustle of work, house, and city noise.

I look forward to finding like-minded people on our travels. Enjoy life it's the only one you have.

Welcome.
We have the sister to yours a 2618 vs Rockwood light v nose.originally we liked the 3008W but decided on the shorter 2618vs and love it.

What does yours weigh and what kind of mpg did you get pulling?

PD;

Our Tow vehicle is a 2005 Dodge RAM 1500 4X4 ST 5.7L Hemi Max - when I first hooked up to the trailer (at the dealership) I noticed a really big difference with my driving. Yes, I used pedal, but instead of a mash and go; I pushed slow and pulled - felt every bloody bump home - some of them teeth charring - poor wife was white knuckled for about 20 or so minutes out of 30 it took to get home. I didn't record fuel at that time - because had almost full tank.

We did make a trip to Pittsfield, MA and I got around 6 to 7 mpg pulling est. GCVWR = 13K lbs. Filled the water tank in the back to 3/4 full for help with stability issues which helped when I took a 25 knot gust across the Susquehanna Bridge on I-95 north. Let me tell ya that put the fear of Jesus in my heart; things can change in an instant.

The trailer went sideways across one lane of a three lane highway (I was in the middle) - and YES the back end of the truck went to the left. I watched enough "YouTube" videos of SWAY failures to understand that pressing the brakes in the vehicle when the truck is going left is not recommend I did not touch the brakes instead I manually triggered the trailer brakes and brought the rig under control with in seconds. This was going down a hill at nearly 70 mph into flat open valley. I thank God for my quick thinking or it could have ended badly.

So, PD to answer your question the trip was +1k miles and my average MPG = 6.7 (but I had some elevation to that as well). Overall, I feel confident with the Truck to pull the trailer. Yes, the wife and I have been looking for a little bigger tow vehicle (2011 - 2016 Dodge RAM 2500 4X4 5.7L or 6.4L HEMI - the cost of diesel is to high for a fixed incomer.

Since, I will be retiring in January 2023, we are making some adjustments to the trailer, truck, and making a trip to see our grand kids in NC and SC in mid March. After that - who knows but we are discussing some possibilities.

I would like to go to Daytona Bike week (March 2023), possibly a FROG event or two, I know of an RV show in March in Lakeland, FL., looking for other events around the USA.

Love the new life in 2023 - retirement.

Windjammer.

Jones,
Thanks for the detailed reply. We pull ours with a 2015 Chevy 2500 HD with the 6.0l. Ours weighs about 8k loaded and we get about 7.5 mpg. We don’t have any issues with sway and it hangs onto the road very well with wind and the trucks passing us.
I retired this month and love it. My DW and I plan on some longer trips this coming summer. If you get to Missouri hit me up We don’t see too many Windjammers or Ultra V’s in the Midwest. Don’t know why that is. We had to go to Ohio to buy ours.
Enjoy retirement and camping!

That seems hard to believe since they were manufactured only in the Midwest. What I can tell you is that they are rarely seen out West.

Welcome!!! We have a 2017 3006WK, and love it! We live in Northern CA and have towed it all over the state and into Oregon. We pull it with a Ram 2500 Cummins 4X4, and it tows it very well. It is a great trailer, enjoy!!!
