Brand new to the camping community

Hello my name is Michael,

My wife and I just purchased a 26dbh. We have never owned a camper before. We love the out doors but hate sleeping in tents. We are in Michigan and have our first trip planned for the 16th. Any advice for the newbies is appreciated. Things we do know from lots of research.
1. The Mattress is garbage, get a new topper.
2. Get a anti sway hitch
3. Solar is super expensive to do it fully.
4. Roof seals will leak and need proper maintenance.
5. Get a water pressure regulator
6. Get a surge protector 30 Amp for our unit.
7. New shower head
8. Listen to people who have done this longer then you.

Hi and welcome to FRF!
Suggest that you put your RV information in your profile. That way you don't have to keep posting it. And what brand is your 26DBH? Many brands use the same model number and Forest River Inc has almost 100 different brands.

Welcome from Michigan.....just south of you near Milan. You are on the right track with your list. Add one more.....”my trailer will have issues, don’t let it keep you from having fun.”

Made my first ‘repair’ of something I thought was substandard within the first 4 hours I had it in the driveway. Nothing else so far. They are not really complicated overall and can often be fixed by the owner.

Happy/safe camping. Our next trip is Ludington.

Welcome from western NJ! Some of the items on your list are more important than others, and I would suggest adding this....take your time and don’t rush! Whether it is preparing for your trip, driving there, backing in or setting up, rushing can ruin your trip. Take your time, camping is all about enjoying the journey!

Also, fo many (myself included) owning a camper gives you the “mod bug”, and you should prepare yourself for countless hours of improving your rig. Enjoy your new camper and the memories it will bring!

Hello Michael. I live in Fowlerville, MI, just off the I-96 corridor, exit 129. I am new to big rig camping. My first memory of camping goes back about 60 years when my mom and dad packed up the family for a Smokey Mountain adventure. I parked the Georgetown the weekend before Christmas 2019. Then, a month later, Covid-19 came to America. We are ready to shake off the dust starting off in Wm Sterling State Park located next to a significant Civil War Battlefield preserved by the National Park System. You'll learn what it is you need and want as the trips mount up. Be prepared but don't forget to take ii all in. Michigan is a beautiful state, as are many others.
