Converter issues?

I believe my converter is bad. I cannot plug into shore power w/o the batteries over charging. I checked the fuse-it appears to be fine, however, when I removed the fuse...the little red light (on the panel) did not come on. Also, I have only heard the fan come on for 20-30 seconds after I turn my battery ‘on/off’ switch to the ‘on’ position...then never hear it again.

To replace the unit...is it something I could do or should it be done by a RV tech.

Oh, by the way, I normally dry camp and have had no problem with batteries.

To what fuse do you refer?

I have a 15a 110vAC breaker for my converter but no 12vDC fuse. Can you post a pic?

You are right. I have a 15 breaker not fuse. I wasn’t looking at the right thing. Is there a eay to tell if breaker is bad?

It's not likely that your breaker is bad... they seldom fail. Your converter may be bad, however. By what means/methods have you determined that your batteries are overcharging?

How many batteries do you have?
The converter fan is temperature controlled in most cases. So when the converter is working, it heats up enough to turn on the cooling fan. I have turned on all 12v lights, for instance, to get my converter to work which causes the fan to run briefly. Your situation of "I have only heard the fan come on for 20-30 seconds after I turn my battery ‘on/off’ switch to the ‘on’ position...then never hear it again" could be normal operation.

I have my batteries (2) on, I am hooked up to shore power. I just turned on 7 lights and my FAN did come on. Thank you.
My batteries overcharge...have even ‘boiled’ over. My normal routine is to run generator for a couple hours, drive or hook up to power for a couple of hours and everything is just fine. BUT, if I keep plugged in to shore power then they over charge.
I just used my tester on the batteries with shore power on = 13.2. With shore power off =12.96. I think I have been hooked up for a couple hours. I will leave hooked up for another hour or two tonight and then do some testing on and off all day tomorrow and see what happens.
Thanks for your guidance....I greatly appreciate it. I will report back tomorrow evening. Thx!

Converter issues?

I'm not concerned about either voltage reading. I AM concerned about batteries "have even ‘boiled’ over." Maybe someone else will help.

Edit: I changed ‘Fuses’ to ‘Issues?’ in your title.

isn't 13.2 volts the normal float voltage? that's what i would expect a converter to be sending to a set of fully charged batteries. they should not be boiling over with that voltage.

Kinda what I'm thinking. 13.2v - 13.5v.

To the OP... have you possibly overfilled your batteries?
They will emit gas and liquid during normal charging if the cavities are too full.

I did leave it hooked up to shore power all night. The meter read 13.6 this morning. I am going to leave it hooked up and check it off and on throughout the day.
It was in March when I topped them off with distilled water. Then in April, i was at a CG with electric and that is when I noticed the overspill. It was reading 13.7 and I unplugged and have dry camped since. I am a full timer. But I am at a city park and want to use shore power, but had been afraid to leave it on after They get charged.
So, since it has been plugged in for more than 16 hours and it is at 13.6, I shouldn’t worry anymore????

The “topped them off” phrase needs more definition. See 5picker’s comment above. The cells should not be filled to the top.
