Dometic DMR702 Problems

Is anyone else having issue with their Dometic DMR702 refrigerator? We have had it in and out of the dealership. We have spoke to Dometic directly and still..Problem doesn't see to get fixed.

Problem: The fan kicks on and never shuts off whether we are plugged in or dry camping. Very frustrating! We have owned a couple of RV's over the years and have never had issues like this.

Why is the fan running an issue?

Refrigerators (especially in a slide don't have the natural air-flow for heat removal so fan(s) are used.

Does the unit cool OK?

No. The refrigerator doesn't cool enough or it freezes. Also, it runs off of DC only and it doesn't matter what mode we set it at "which should just be Auto" per our last 3 RV's with Dometic appliances. The A/C and LP kicks back to DC. The fan runs by DC only non-stop until the batteries go dead when dry camping. Of course plugged in the battery won't go dead, but the fan stays on non stop.

It was explained by Dometic in 2016 and finally in 2017 gave us a reference # for the dealership (3rd trip for the same problem), that we needed to replace the Thermostat and the actual board could be defective, the fan(s) shouldn't kick on and stay on unless the enclosure reaches over 150 degrees (their words). Also, we turn on our battery, open the RV and the fan is going without turning the power on to the refrigerator. We took it back to the dealership who said they fixed the problem. But, to date the problem hasn't been fixed. All of this after we were advised our brand new battery was bad (we replaced). Then we were told we needed more than 1 battery (and so we added on).

Today, the RV shop on Dometic's list advised that there should be 2 fans (if there is 2 fans, we only here 1). We were advised that Dometic has to contact the MFG in China, We were advised what you reference as far as slide out/air flow problem (interesting since we've never had this issue before in our other RV's.

We live in Arizona so I would understand this if we were using in 100+ degrees. However, this is not the case. We are in low to mid 70's during the day and low to mid 40's during the night once the Phoenix temp hits 90 or so.

I do know that if we pull the outside panel off, there are several wire's that are just laying around capped off. Wondering if there is an electrical malfunction?

Thanks again

Dometic DMR702 Problems

I wanted to update my original post regarding the fan kicking on and never shutting off. This would be whether we were plugged in or not. After, 2 different RV service centers, taking it in more than 7 times, spending $100's of dollars on service calls, parts and a total of 6 batteries. We finally resolved the issue. I contacted a "Certified" Dometic RV repair center who diagnosed the problem within literally 2 minutes. After, speaking with Dometic myself and dealing with a competent RV service technician. We are happy campers!: trink39:

First, Per Dometic your refrigerator fan should NOT turn on when you connect your batteries and or plug-in without hitting the power button to your refrigerator directly.

Turns out somehow the electrical had been hard-wired directly to the batteries and this was accidentally done during the mfg. process, not by any of the tech's. Although, you would think the tech's we took this problem to would have noticed the very clear and plain diagram.

We did order an extra thermistor sensor just because we travel quite a bit and sensor has been running constantly on each trip. Plus this has been an on going problem since we picked up this brand new 5th wheel November 2015. I didn't want to have a problem down the road.

I hope this helps all of the happy campers.
