Glass top explosion

Hi Everyone

I too just had my stove top glass shatter! Before you even ask.... I did not have stove on mor did I put lid down after using kettle! Lid was bent and in open position ! I was sitting having my tea at table and next I hear a big noise and the top in the open position shattered! My TT is a 2019 open range!
This bites big time
A heck of a mess to clean up As well
Not sure why this happened!
Problem needs to be corrected
Hopefully under warranty
My TT is a 2019 OR

Thanks
Leona K

This is a potential problem with tempered glass in general and is exacerbated in RVs as they experience road bumps and extreme temp swings. The process used in making tempered glass introduces tremendous stresses in the molecular structure. The slightest scratch, nick or bump in the wrong place can cause a weakness that will cause what you saw when the glass endures a stress.

Get the old shop vac out and clean her up.

I am pretty sure you will be ignored as a warranty claim. Not worth the effort to haul the trailer to the dealer twice.

This happens with tempered glass.

A local glass shop should be able to get you a replacement if you bring them the measurements including any mounting holes. Be sure to pay to get it tempered. While tempered glass has its drawbacks, avoiding the risk of sharp shards of glass is well worth it.

That bump, nick or scratch may have happened weeks, months or even a year ago. The nick or scratch can be microscopic in size. Even microscopic manufacturing flaws can be the culprit. I don't see a window behind the stove top but if there is one and the hot sun is beating through it onto nicked or scratched tempered glass it could result in the same outcome.

Shattered glass

Thanks everyone

I have only parked my unit since I got it last yr! I guess having the air on and then making a tea... The heat and cold caused the shatter !
Now to buy a new one
Let’s see how much it’ll run me
Lol

I would still call the stove manufacturer and tell them what happened, the worse that can happen is they say no.

X2 what Daycruiser said. Call the stove mfg. and see what they say. It won't hurt and you may get a new top out of the deal.

If that doesn't pan out (see what I did there ), I would go to a local glass shop as suggested and see what they'd charge for a tempered glass to replace it.
