Greenhorn Tenderfooted Newcomer to Travel Trailers... But It Made The Wife Happy.
Hey Everyone!
My name is Rodney. My wife, Sharon, and I live in Alpena Michigan. We have 3 incredible daughters who live throughout the United States from Arizona and Nevada all the way over to North Carolina. We also have 5 amazingly wonderful grandchildren who bless us nearly each year by visiting us here all throughout the summer months.
I am on disability, but I work part-time at a local bike shop repairing and selling various high quality bikes and other sport type equipment. My wife works from home as a Certified Professional Claim Auditor. We live in a semi-country type home with our two loving Collie/Cocker mix dogs: Rocco & Ranger. Our home is near a beautiful 7-mile lake where we enjoy kayaking, swimming, snow-kiting, snowshoeing, and the occasional ice fishing.
We are lovers of the outdoors, family and friend gatherings, and quality/fun outdoor activities. I love road and mountain biking, campfires, an ice cold amber or a tepid single malt scotch with a good quality cigar. My wife loves the same but with a tepid glass of Ramos Pinto Lagrima White Port wine (minus the cigar).
The last but certainly not least... This August is our 25th anniversary. The celebration came early when I surprised my wife with a 2012 Forest River V-Cross 27V FK travel trailer.
As a family who always enjoyed tent camping, my wife admitted to me last year that the body was ready for something a bit more enclosed... hint, hint. From her smile, I think I did okay.

Welcome to the forum from the countryside between Dallas, Texas and the Okie state line.
Good job making the wife smile with the more enclosed trailer!

Welcome to Rodney (and Sharon) from down here in Missouri (you know what they say, we LOVE company).
I've enjoyed Alpena on several occasions, by land AND sea. My family used to have a place in Cheboygan, MI, but downsized. My wife and I would join you in the port and scotch, respectively!
You'll find this place invaluable for all the questions new owners have about this particular journey, a wealth of knowledge AND opinions, as well as and even general camaraderie.
Cheers!

Congrats on making the jump, funny thing is we got our first RV 4 years ago on our 26th anniversary! Not FOR the anniversary though. If I didn't get her jewelry or something girly for anniversary, I would have been living in the camper!

Thanks for the welcome. Let's keep in touch! If you ever make it back up this way, send me a message. Maybe we can get some camping time in
It is interesting that you are in Missouri. We are on our way to Cadet next weekend. That is where we are picking up our V-Cross.
I actually have more information about it along with questions in another thread: https://www.forestriverforums.com/fo...fk-246695.html
Take a look at the post and let us know if we can meet for a Subway before leaving on Saturday (God-willing).
Be fun to meet up if possible!
Take care,
Rodney

Thanks! My wife (praise God) could care less for jewelery, but make her camping life as perfect as possible...
I've lived in enough doghouse during my days. This time it comes with a bathroom!

I'm still learning how to reply to these threads. I believe I replied earlier but I would like to reiterate that we are going to be in Missouri not this weekend but next. In fact we will be in Cadet Missouri picking up our v-cross on Saturday. Not certain where in Missouri you are, would love if we can do a meet and greet before leaving the state. Let us know. Can PM our details. PS: Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome aboard Rodney. Since you said you are totally new to RV's, this thread link below may help and is aimed at those just starting out like yourselves.

Hey, welcome from West Michigan.
We've never been to Alpena but we might venture over that way this summer, health permitting.
Welcome to the forum. There's a vast amount of information here, from the camper's hitch ball or pin to the back bumper, and from the tires to the rooftop air.
Have fun and be safe!
