Greetings friends

New member,
Joined because I wanted to share some specific good info and if I run across other good stuff to share.

Today's good news.
For those of you with electric awning Troubles and an awning that has trouble retracting you will find this interesting. We purchased a new Wildwood 26TBSS in Oct of 14. Been a great camper with zero issues.... until this weekend in Branson. The awning would not retract. Moved about 3 inches and completely quit in either direction. After lots of work I was able to manually retract it with the 7/16 nut in the end. After checking for power and ground at the connector at home it was obvious the motor had failed. Spent a great deal of time researching this issue and found it to be a big problem with these motors. Looked up a replacement and it was between 140 and 220 to replace the motor assy. I am a mechanic by trade and knew this was a rip off when the same design motor was selling for 20-30 dollars with different bolt pattern. Hunted for about 1.5 hrs to find a match. Got it!!! 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix. Drivers side motor has the exact bolt pattern, correct 12 spline metal gear, and connector can be easily obtained at your local parts store. ( mine had this on the shelf as it is a common connector. ). This motor was only 41.00 plus tax and I ordered a spare just in case.

This will Save you easily 100 bones! My awning is a dometic with the single motor.

The old motor was full of water and rusted out the contacts. Mabey used it a dozen times total. This is a common issues on these motors as they are not sealed very well to prevent water intrusion. Seal up the new one with silicone to prevent this in the future.

Sorry for the long greeting post just wanted to share some good info!.

Hey Now, thanks for the great info.

Reading all the posts about awning motor failures, was sort of wondering when our turn would come. A little RTV could be just the thing ....
