Greetings from South Dakota

Hello.. Wrote the check for a Greywolf 26BH a week and a half ago, and now anxiously awaiting warmer temps. Last weeks almost 50's had me wishing I had just brought the thing home rather than leave it at the dealer. But the past few days of snow, ice, you name it has me glad I didnt.

Big trip planned in June to the Black Hills and planning on a few around home before that to get the bugs worked out.

Has anyone else camped around the Sioux Falls area before May 20th? Is it tough to get a site on a Friday afternoon? I know we would have to bring in our own water, but what are the status of dump stations that early. Anywhere around town that allows you to dump?

I know, I know alot of questions. Being a first time TT owner I will no doubt have a lot of questions. I have been lurking for about a week and have already learned alot...

anyways.... Hello from the upper midwest

Paul

Paul - Welcome. Are you from Sioux Falls? I am.

Also you are looking for a dump area around sioux falls and camping around. I know the yogi bear one runs a special for the month of may. Water maybe a issue but must times at RV parks they have a spot you can fill up water and dump tanks. Usually the full hooks will not take place till later in the month.

Harrisburg actually...but close enough.....

I just reread my post and I guess I left out that I was referring to the state parks in the area. We are thinking of trying those out as they are cheaper than Yogi/commercial RV parks and more our style.

That said, I had thought of trying Yogi once or twice for the experience.

Scubieman- where do you do your camping at?

Well the closet state parks I know of is down in Yankton. There is a few further North. I heard the Newton Hills were good. I will probably be going to the Iowa lakes a few times. I will also go to Talsma Hills to see how that is.

How long have I been camping? LOL 3 times. Once each the past 3 years. I bought a brand new RV (Darn sales people talking me into it) I bought it Dec 6th so unable to go quite yet.

Where did you get your RV?

We bought ours from Schaaps after seeing it at the recent RV show at the fairgrounds. When we went to do the paperwork and walk through the customer service was great.

ahhh didnt realize you had just bought yours... so we are in the same boat..

The state parks I know of around here are

Big Sioux Rec Area- near Brandon
Union Grove- south of Beresford
Newton Hills- Canton
Palisades- near Garretson
Lakes Brandt,Herman,and Madison near Madison

Because MN charges a reservation fee for non residents I am going to avoid those for awhile.

Iowa does not charge for out of state. South dakota state charges for car permits of 30 for a year.

I wish I bought mine local. I bought mine by davenport iowa.

When was the rv show?

I think it was 3 or 4 weeks ago. There is another this weekend too. They are nice, all the big dealers in the area are there with many different models.

Even thou you bought yours far away, Schaaps is a Forest River dealer so you should be able to get service if needed.

Where is it at? You have a link. Schaarps will service mine but I'm last in line since I did not buy from them.

Every first river dealer has this option based on forest river rules. Most dealers do that.

The RV show is at the Fairgrounds... I just saw the commercial for it on TV. There might be an ad in the Argus tomorrow or Friday too.
If I come across a link I will send it your way.

Apologies to others.. suppose this coulda moved to private messaging but wasnt sure if others in the Sioux Falls, SD area were also reading it.

welcome Sundawg, if that is your real name that is...

Do ya'll ever consider going to the Black Hills or Badlands National Park? I have been to both those in your great state and some really nice camping in them thar hills for sure while Keystone was kind of like the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg of the west (i.e tourist trap), the town to me is pretty cool and the Black Hills are pretty.

If I were you guys I would be planning trips to wyoming and montana....Glacier, Yellowstone, Tetons...that is but a hop skip and jump for you...Enjoy the new camper....

We are heading to the hills for a week in june. Not so sure about the badlands. Those roads seem a bit hairy to me being a novice travel trailer owner.

10 or so years ago we camped at glacier two years in a row and loved it. We are very anxious to get back. We are actually planning a trip in a few years to glacier and then yellowstone. Just have to wait till the kids are a little older

Like mentioned above, there are some nice campgrounds in Yankton. Although it has been a number of years since I've camped there. There is however, a really nice campground just outside of Vermillion. It is run by the county. The sites aren't paved, but the bathroom/shower house was built about a year or two ago. This is a quiet out of the way place just off the Missouri River. I highly recommend it. Here is the address to find out more info. Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Company

Well, we did it! Took it out for the first time this weekend and had a blast. Learned a few things and made yet another list of more useful things to buy.

We plan to go back to the same place, Newton Hills which is 30 miles south of Sioux Falls SD, next weekend and already have a better/nicer spot picked out.
