Hello From Arizona

New to this....but here goes. My Wife and I just ordered a Rockwood 1905 Minilite and are expecting delivery around mid-July. I am a retired Army Officer and a retired Departmant of the Army Civilian. I currently teach High School English in Southern Arizona.

Any advice for a couple of old folks starting a new hobby is must appreciated.

Welcome from Southern Illinois.

Do a couple of local shake down camping trips to verify that it is as it should be, prior to taking any big trips.

welcome! great advice about verifying that absolutely everything works before you take delivery. use your camera to take pictures or videos as necessary. you may not have all of these items but make sure you know the physical location of the following:
converter
reverse polarity fuses
inverter
inline resetable 12 volt circuit breaker
battery disconnect
fresh water drain
fresh water vent / overflow
low point drains
water filter
both gas and electric switches for water heater
water heater drain
lp quick disconnect
water heater bypass valves
water pump and winterizing valve(s)

have him demonstrate the following
refrigerator switching from electric to gas and back to electric when in auto mode
how to adjust temperature of refrigerator
show proper position of water heater bypass valves for normal operation and for winterizing
verify that the tires you have match the tire placard and that they are inflated properly
demonstrate how the fan setting of 'auto' controls whether the a/c fan comes on or stays off when using the heater.

i may have missed a few but these are the things that people ask about repeatedly. the more you learn up front the more time you will have to ENJOY YOURSELF WITH YOUR NEW RV! have fun!

Welcome from TX.

Soooo much to learn. Spend a good deal of time on this site & you'll be amazed at the wealth of info.

As Reverse Snowbird says, be sure everything is as it should be before you sign on the dotted line. You'll likely be excited to get the new RV, but don't let that cause you to "let things go until another day". The dealer will be much more receptive to make any fixes if they don't have you money in pocket. There is a link to a good PDI ( Pre delivery inspection ) checklist here somewhere. Maybe somebody will post it up here for you.

And thanks for your service.

Welcome from SoCal! My advice would be to keep it simple while you determine your camping/RVing style. I agree with camping close to home. Some members will do some driveway camping. It’s a great way to get to know your camper without stress.
