Hello from Clayton NC
Hello my name is Jeff and I’m from Clayton NC. Me and the wife have been wanting to purchase a travel camper for a couple years now and are getting close to pulling the trigger. Figured I’d check this forum out to see what we are getting into. We plan on buying a prime time avenger 24BHS and will be pulling with a 2020 Chevy trail boss 1500.

I’ve got lots of questions lol. We are total green horns to camping. I’m reading a lot in the forums to try and will try to avoid asking something that already been answered a dozen times.

Hello from Fuquay! Just our experience, recently bought a Salem FSX190RT, completely new to this but did a lot of research before purchase about everything trailer related. Knew what we wanted, our limitations and checked a few dealers on-line. Went to Camping World. They didn't have what we wanted on-site but could get it in from another lot but wouldn't move on price. I checked around and found Keystone RV Center in PA. They have many units and the cost was $8000.00 less than CW wanted for the model we were looking for. On top of that, it had the upgraded ac, solar installed. I put a deposit, we went up stayed in a hotel 2 nights, went to the dealer the next day for full walk through and ask questions/ mini bootcamp, picked up next day and came home. We re very satisfied and saved big. You'll need that savings as there is a lot to buy to outfit a new trailer. Wife had fun with that.
Enjoy and see you on the road!

welcome
from Virginia Beach
Wife and I bought our first in April. I have been a member here since. Like everything else, ask questions here and at camp sites. I have been blessed to have campground neighbors willing to help with all my questions. We are headed out on our fourth trip this year in October and still have a Thanksgiving trip and a New Years trip scheduled. Enjoy.

Don’t do that. You’ll drive the people crazy who like to fuss at newbies for not reading old posts first.
Oh, welcome from Sumter, SC!

HI and welcome from just North and East of ya in Zebulon!
Lots of good information on this forum BEFORE and AFTER you look to buy your first RV. The search function on this forum is a friend, but don't be afraid to ask if you can't find what your looking for. I'm on my fifth RV now and still need to ask the members here plenty of questions.
One thing I will immediately point out to you is to download, print off, and take with you the PDI check list when you go to pick up your new RV. At the top of the Home Page, click on Library, then look to the left window pane labeled Most Popular Files for the check list.
Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies! We finally pulled the trigger Monday at campers inn. Thought I had made a mistake on the way home as it was pushing and pulling me all the way. Realized later that my fresh water tank and and gray water tank were 2/3 full. Can’t wait to take it out for our first trip!

Welcome, from Central Maryland. It may take you a trip or two to figure the best loading of your trailer for towing. Ideally you want 10% to 15% of the weight on your hitch. Try to empty your grey and black tanks when leaving a campsite to save weight. If we are going to a campground where I can fill the fresh water tank, I fill it there. Take some time to get used to handling your trailer. If you haven't towed a lot before, find a large empty parking lot, and practice parking and backing up. That will save you a lot of frustration in a tight spot later.

Congrats on the purchase. However, I'd warn you about Campers Inn of Raleigh, if that's indeed where you bought it. Take your RV anywhere BUT that Campers Inn, should you have any warranty issues, or need any service on your RV. I found better service (and it wasn't all that much better either) with CampingWorld of Raleigh. But, NEVER, ever use Campers Inn of Raleigh for any RV service.
My RV needed body work in 2021 and I took it to an independent body shop for the repairs. They ordered the needed parts from that Campers Inn and after seven months, all Campers Inn did was lay down false stories of backorders at the feet of Forest River for why they couldn't get parts. I eventually had to get involved and contact Forest River directly, only to find that no orders were ever placed by Campers Inn after waiting all that time.
Even the owner of the body shop that did my RV repairs recently bought a new RV from that Campers Inn and has had nothing but very bad experiences of his own with this particular dealership too. Sorry, but this is just the honest to god worst experiences me and others have with this RV dealer.
