Hello from Michigan

Hello everyone,

The family is picking up a 2015 SunSeeker 2860DSF on Friday. The rig is in beautiful condition with about 11,000 on the engine. We are new to the RV World and probably would never have done this without Covid affecting our decision making.

We have two teenagers and 2 dogs we will be traveling with. 2 weeks ago we rented a 22' Four Winds for about 5 days and put 1,800 miles during a trip to visit college campuses with our high school senior daughter. We had a blast traveling in the RV, enough so that we decided to buy one. The kids are in remote learning right now and I'm flexible enough with my job that we hope to take off after Thanksgiving and hit the road. We were planning on heading south but had some unfortunate news yesterday regarding the death of a close friend and may head towards Wisconsin instead. We really would like to get the feel of owning our own, especially in sub-freezing temperatures and then use it as a base for a major ski trip to Colorado over the holidays or mid-January.

I'm active in some other forums but need to get the lay of the land around here. I've done a bunch of searching already but have some specific questions I haven't found the answer to yet. Please let me know if it's appropriate to head to the SunSeeker sub-forum to post those to get the most views.

Thanks in advance to all of the knowledgeable people that answer the same newbie questions over and over. I will try to make use of "search" as best I can.

Ken

Welcome aboard. Since this is your first RV by your own words, this thread may help as it is aimed at new owners like yourself.

Hello Michigan! I've got to get up there. Born in Sault Ste Marie, raised in So Cal. What part are you in?

@wmtire - thanks for the links. That is extremely helpful.

@bajafrog - Live just on the outskirts of the Detroit area. Yes, you should come back. Michigan is beautiful in the summer.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome.

@wmtime - I'm going to repeat my thanks for linking the post with the educational links. I've just read through all of them and they have answered a ton of questions that I had. I'm an Engineer and and a complete DIY guy. I don't trust anyone to work on my stuff so I like to learn as much as possible about what I'm dealing with.

FYI - The RV Education link to inverters and refrigerators is no longer there. It would be helpful to have a link to how a RV fridge works as the dual electric/propane is still baffling me but I know google is my friend.

Ok thanks for letting me know about the bad link. I'll try to see if that same info is elsewhere. Glad to hear the other stuff may have helped.
