Hello from MN

Greetings....Like others here, I am new to the board, having just purchased a new to us 2006 Rockwood Roo 233. We had a Jayco 1208 pop-up prior...but were tiring of having to put it up and down all the time for loading, unloading, drying out, etc. We took our first trip in the new rig this past weekend and really enjoyed the set-up and take down process and how much easier it is to load and unload. Like all new experiences we have learned some new routines for our set up and that we can leave a few things at home.

I must admit to really being ready for an adult beverage when reaching our destination, as for our maiden voyage we were pulling into a very strong headwind and watched the gas gauge drop very quickly.

The good news is that we really enjoyed the trip and the ride home was much more enjoyable as we were not bucking any wind.

Sadly....I think an upgrade to our tow vehicle will be required, as we have a 2003 Ford Explorer that has a V6, and while it can handle the weight and was very comfortable to drive at 60-62mph on flat ground, the slightest incline would really bog it down. Since one of our travel goals is to be able to go to the Black Hills with it at some point, we certainly can't do that with our current set-up. However, since most of our trips are within 100 miles, we are good for now.

I'm looking forward to learning more from all of you!

Welcome from a fellow Minnesotan! You will probably find buying trucks and campers is an upward progression and you've just taken the first step!

Welcome to FRF!

Make sure you visit the Roo/Shamrock sub-forum here.
The 233 was the first three bunk hybrid and was the predecessor to today's best selling hybrid, the 233S.

Sadly, you've learned that a v-6 SUV isn't a good tow vehicle for towing a full height trailer.
Especially when loaded with people and stuff.

No kidding on the V6---I suspected it when we made the decision to buy the trailer...but was hoping it wouldn't be confirmed so quickly.

We camped at Itasca State Park....it was a nice weekend, I would have been a bit happier if our maiden voyage with the new rig was closer to home, but it was booked long before we pulled the trigger on the upgrade. Next, we are off to a regional park in Anoka County (MN)..the name escapes me. My wife does the booking and supply procurement, I do the driving and carrying the procured supplies from the house to the camper and back again we we come home!

I was just curious because I saw a Roo heading north as I was heading south on I-380 in Iowa. Just south of Waterloo.
