Hello from noobs in the West Virginia hills

Hi everyone! I’m excited to be entering the world of camping for the second time in more than a decade. First time around my family owned a 2006 Salem park model in a campground on a lake in Virginia. This time we decided we wanted to try traveling and bought a 2018 Flagstaff Shamrock 23IKSS that we will be towing with a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab Denali. First time we’ve ever towed more than a pair of jet skis, so I’m feeling a little nervous even though it’s my husband that will be doing most of the tow work. We haven’t picked it up yet and I’ve been learning everything I can about travel trailers and towing. We pick it up in two days!

Both my husband and I are medical professionals with mostly grown kids (youngest is in college). We have our first grandchildren as well, a set of 2 year old twins. DH recently started working in the VA medical system which means he finally has paid vacation and we can travel more.

Yesterday we drove over to our local state park to simply explore the campground and look at everyone’s set up. We were pleasantly surprised by how friendly everyone was and more than willing to answer any questions we had. Met a great family from NC with a hybrid trailer similar to ours that were a wealth of info. We are looking forward to meeting other great folks along the way.

Thanks to everyone in the forums for the friendly and helpful information you post. I’ve been lurking for a week and have learned all sorts of things from cooking in camp with a Blackstone to what observation cameras people like. I’m looking forward to being part of this community!

Welcome to the forums! As you are already seeing, there's a ton of information about camping in our RVs here. If you read enough, you won't even have to ask many questions, but please feel free to ask if you are not seeing what you need to know.

And thanks to your DH for choosing a position that supports our nation's veterans, from another VA employee and US Navy veteran.
