Hello from Northwest Ohio

Good Morning everyone, wanted to introduce myself my name is Nick and looking to purchase my first travel trailer for my wife and 2 kids. I know this may not be the right year to purchase a travel trailer as it seems that everyone is currently thinking the same thing. We are in no hurry so I might look for an end of year deal or wait till the spring. So far I have really like the Grey Wolf limited 26DBH that I looked at the other day. I have seen mixed really on the camper and if it is half ton towable. My TV is going to be a F-150 limited with 6.2 liter and tow package.

So if you guys have any suggestions please let me know or even things I should lookout for.

Thanks and have a great day

Welcome from Virginia !!!

Campers are currently flying off the lots so a end of year deal may not happen this year. There will be a surplus once the Covid pandemic slows and we go to the new normal,

Welcome. There are numerous threads on what a TV can handle and what to look for. Just do a search in the forum.

Welcome from Wisconsin. Whatever camper you look at make sure it'll meet you needs and wants now and in the future. Good luck with your search. The right camper is out there, you just have to do your homework and find it.

Biggest goof many make is to purchase too much trailer for the tow vehicle.

Ignore any Ford numbers other then the PAYLOAD NUMBER for that truck found on a yellow tag on driver side door frame. Do not rely on looked up numbers on the 'net. My sticker pictured below for your reference. It shows 1309# for MY TV payload.

Then rely ONLY on Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) for trailer weight, not DRY weight as that is not a realistic number. Also figure that your tongue weight, is 13% of GVWR, not the published tongue weight.

That tongue weight subtracts from your TV PAYLOAD number, leaving you with adding weights for all passengers, and cargo plus 100# for the WDHitch you will use. TV trailer pulling power is a useless number. You always run out of payload before you get close to that number.

Don't buy more trailer then your tow vehicle can handle is the message, and don't rely on the dealer to tell you what your TV can handle.

Many threads and youtube videos on how to figure what your TV can haul safely... that is the first thing to figure before picking a trailer.

Good Luck
