Welcome from just east of Toronto. We are originally from the Gananoque area. My brother is near Carleton Place. There are several members here from Kingston to Ottawa.

Congrats on your new-to-you Salem.

Thanks

Thanks for the welcome. This seems like a great forum lots of helpful people no fights lol. Anything I should keep an eye out for on this rig. I got under it at the dealer with a flashlight. To check the frame for cracks near the axles. Didn’t see anything though the sales guy was really trying to find out why I was under it. I straight out told him I was looking for cracked welds. He says Forest River trailers don’t have weld issues. So I popped out my phone and showed him the list of people with cracked frames. He said that he has never heard of these weld issues and that we will never have cracks on our welds. Those other people either overloaded their rv or were hitting some good sized potholes for the frames to crack. I said okay put that on our warranty that they will fix it should any cracks form on the welds or on the frames because not enough heat when the welds were done. He looked at me for a few seconds then said alright I’ll add it on the warranty I said I want a ten year warranty and hat the fix or any damage due to a weld cracking the dealership will fix it at their own cost. He went to talk to the manager. He comes out no 3 years only I said ok tear up the contract we won’t buy it without that warranty. He leaves about 10 mins later he comes back ok 6 years I said nope 10 or the trailer stays here. Okay he says 10years. So I think I came out ok. 2017 Salem 261BHXL. Was asking 17995. We got it for 12500. I think we did okay. It has the power package. Power stabilizers and power jack. Powerd awning with leds. What do you guys think? Did we do good.?

I don’t know anything about the Salem Cruise Lite line but generally speaking you should be able to get a price close to 70% of the MSRP, maybe better if they’ve had it in stock for a while.

There is occasionally some verbal jousting here on FRF but the Administrators are very good at clamping down on anything that violates forum rules so it stays quite civil for the most part.

For sure the Jonestown cg was great. Water acess from most non seasonal. Lots of stuff for kids. I caught a huge carp 2 ft from our trailer. We stayed over canada day last year it was 37c 100% himidity thank god our little cougar haf ac. Power went out at 6pm one night. You should have seen everyone comes out of their trailer asking everyone else if they have power. But great campground we are def reserving another spot this year.

Oh forgot to say our new Salem came home today with a brand new wdh and anit sway bar an extra 618buck i wasnt wanting to spend but after it was all hooked up i feel a hundred % better towing this with the 2017 pathfinder. Oh for any nissan owners out there with the hd towing when you go to connect your brake controller to the connector tucked up under the dash the white conne ter is just a cap take it off the real connector is under it. We had a heck of a time trying to get the braje controller to green light. Even went to nissan and they said ohcthat what we alawys connect to. Even their trailer tech didnt figure it out. Leisure Days Rv went above and beyond today. Started at 9am and wouldnt let me leave till i had done everyithing myself and i felt good ablut the towing.

The manufacturer’s website says the current 261BHXL is 29’1” long and the unloaded weight is 4352# which means it’ll be around 5200# when loaded. Is that what you are towing with a Nissan Pathfinder? What WDH did you get?

Yep we got the reese wdh and anti sway. Pathfinder is good for 6000lbs we wont ever put that much in for camping. I usually tow alone kids and little woman follow in the escape. I cant stand the kids fighting the dog whining and going nuts trying to back into a spot so we cane up with the follower. The furthest we camp is alfonquin so far. I took it to a scale today the front end is only 20lbs less with the wdh on. Scale guy was impressed so was I. I watched a lot of videos to find out gow this magical wdh works. When we first hooked up without the wdh the front end rose 4 inches and lost almost 250lbs on the front. Which put it all on back tv axle. So its working. It towed a million times better than our 1999 little cougar. Heck rps never went over 3000 rpm the cougar we would be sitting ay 3000 on flat ground. New trailer was comforatable at about 1900 at 665kmhs never went over 2000. So much nicer to tow with. I installed a rear camera today wireless seems to work good. It has a radar alarm to warn if your getting to close to an object.

If its just you in the Pathfinder that makes all the difference. We had a 5200# (loaded) Rockwood Roo hybrid that I initially towed with a Toyota Tacoma TRD rated for 6500# but as soon as anyone else got in the Tacoma it was at or over its GVWR. We also used 2 vehicles but because of weight, not annoying kids. The Tacoma’s 4.0L engine lacked power going up hills so I upgraded to a 1/2 ton before the end of that first season with the Roo. Then we had plenty of power and we could save the cost of fuel for the 2nd vehicle.

Welcome from across the border. Spent some memorable week-ends in Smiths Falls as a teenager (a friend's parents had relations there and I'd tag along). Pretty area with very nice people.
