I have a 2017 Salem Lite 231RKXL. I would like to replace the jack knife sofa on the slide out with recliners. Any suggestions please

bird toad, you will want to post your question in the appropriate section, this is just a welcome thread. Back out to Forest River Forums where you will see all the section headings. Also, use the search window for 'jack knife sofa', there are already numerous discussions on that.

Yea exciting though it means it’s being exposed to the snow right now. we told them not to rush cuz it was going to be in storage. No cover and what not, guess it’s a test to see if it’s sealed ok.

It rained like hell the day I picked ours up by the time we left. Had to tow 3 hours home in steady rain, then try to back it down driveway in rain and dark, was stressful. But like you said, at least I knew there were no leaks right aways.

If the roads are not wet and salted you should be fine hauling it home. If road is wet and salted because of snow I would give the undercarriage a good spray down.

It's gonna stay at the dealer until we actually take it home in the spring. Thinking about getting a cover for it now, though. The way this dealer works, is they do a quick prep on it when it shows up, just to make sure it's all there, and nothing is falling apart. Then, when we schedule the pickup in the spring, they will do a full prep/clean/detail on it before we do our orientation. I'm hoping Wilkins RV is a decent dealer, I'm kinda jaded from really bad experiences with FCA dealers.

Yea and if work needs to be done we can bring it in the fall and store there. Atleast theres a yr warranty. So we have one season to find the flaws. Hopefully theres few to find tho.

Heya from the Finger Lakes

My concern would be the stories I have heard of rigs getting damaged on the lots of dealers, sometimes without them informing the owner it happened.

Second I would not wait to do the full run through till spring. If major items are found to be wrong you have lost the beginning, middle or end of your camping season. I have known some that have waited 3 or more months to get warrantee work done. If you think about it it has been sitting out in the snow since it came off the line and Iím sure that was at least three to 4 weeks ago.

I would not be so concerned about a cover. But thatís me. Mine stays out in the weather year round without cover. Past three RVs no problems.

If they said to you they only do a quick look at your RV, I would wager money there will be issues you find when you go for the PDI.

If this is your first RV. There are a couple of checklist on here that you can use so you donít miss anything.

Luckily winter has been nice to us this year so far. Supposed to be getting some good snow tomorrow though. Since well be going Saturday to see it they'll be bringing it in the bldg. There should be a little shelter for this time.

We already told them if there’s obvious issues we will not take ownership tomorrow. And gave them the warning already we (in particular he) is nit picky.

Well see how things go Sat when we look it over. Were excited but not in a rush to take ownership of something if its subpar.

I see it as the cover will also be a little protection for the solar panel and help avoid a little excess heat on the vinyl. But good point it has been out in the elements already.

generally we’ll be keeping it at our house when the season starts and after that but its a trick some people use for storage. Homeowners will cover if something happens at home. So yay coverage.

As for the things to look at, sounds like i need to scour this site. We started a list but if someone has done the work why duplicate it?

Considering the thing just rolled out of the factory a week or two ago, it hasn't been outside a whole lot yet. We're planning on keeping this for a long time, so I'm planning on doing everything I can to slow the rate of decay as much as I can. If I don't get the warm fuzzies about this on Saturday, I'm going to balk at the idea of actually taking ownership. We'll see how this dealer treats us, they all are super duper nice and friendly to get you to buy something, the real test is after the purchase. My expectations are low, but hopeful I'll be surprised.
