Hi from Indiana

Hi everyone! Hubby and I picked up a 2015 Salem and are complete travel trailer newbies! Posted a question already re: 30 amp service.....electrician friend of ours said we have to run a brand new breaker box, fuse and new wire for it. If we go to a friends house, or family, how in the !@#$ are we to use the air, fridge, etc. then? Anyway, glad I found this group and hope someone can help us out for I feel like an idiot!
Thanks!
Diane

Welcome to a great forum! We've all been newbies at one time!

Don't fret about thinking you don't know anything...you'll be surprised at how quickly you'll learn it all! (And you'll repeat repeat repeat the more camping you do!)

Just remember to take your time, double-and triple-check important stuff, and when driving always keep a safe speed (I rarely go above 60mph), a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front, and be extra careful when turning as it's way too easy to hit things with the trailer turning too sharp. (When in doubt with a turn, keep going straight and find somewhere safer to turn...or even make a u-turn and come back from another direction...those right turns when there's a big curb are tricky!)

Thank you! I definitely will be checking and reading a ton before our next venture out. I have to say, I was really impressed with my husband when towing this...it was his first time towing anything that large, and we decided to go through smaller towns, back roads and rural county roads on our way home. Thinking we were save, we hit 3 roundabouts - with NO mirrors to see the back end of the trailer to see if we even had anyone behind us!!!!! Was a journey to put in the books for us but it was fun.

Looking forward to the "road" ahead!
Diane

Welcome from upstate NY. From your post you obviously have a 30 amp service on your trailer. It's nice to have a full amperage hook-up at home to check all the systems. We have a 50 amp service for our "5er", but, you don't need all the amperage to run the necessities(eg the fridge, lights, etc.). You will have to do without the A/C, but that's what coolers and awnings are for. Buy the appropriate converter plug so you can operate on a 20 amp 110 circuit. God Bless.

Welcome from Shillington, PA. Guess that some towing mirrors will be on your "must have" list.

You got it! In fact they have been ordered and will be arriving today or tomorrow. What an experience that was! lol - when we would go around a curve, he would say look and see if anyone is behind us....always an adventure with that man!
