Hot Water On Cold Side

Good Afternoon All,

I recently purchased a used 2016 Forest River Wildwood X-Lite and First time out, we hooked the water up turned on the water heater, then went to use. We noticed that all the cold taps on every faucet, including the toilet, hot hot water came out. I checked the bypass on WH and it is closed. I closed the Hot water valve on the WH and now no water comes out of the cold side, but cold water continues to come out the hot side. I am very confused here, because I have never had this happen..

My GUESS....last owner replaced the hot water heater and somehow mixed up the water lines. To repeat you said every faucet is reversed, cold out the hot, hot out the cold??

X2.

If you can see the waterline connections to the water heater......the cold (blue) should enter at the bottom, and hot (red) should leave at the top.....heading to the rest of the unit.

That is correct. All the lines look connected right.

That is correct. I can see ther the blue on bottom where cold is suppose to go, and hot coming out of top. lol

Is it possible that you're just experiencing latent heat on the cold water lines? During hot days in the sun, it's often the case that poorly insulated lines will heat up. A few seconds of running water should return the temperature down to cold status ... if that's the problem anyway. Simplistic I know, but we often get a few seconds of hot water out of the cold water lines all the time in the summer.

I understand whet you are saying, but this is not the case. I let the water run for a few minutes, and still hot. Also, I shut the hot water valve off at the water heater, and it shuts the right side of the faucet off. What should happen when you shut the Hot Water Valve off on the Water Heater, The LEFT side should shut off. This is not the case. ALSO, when I shut the Hot Water Valve off at the Water Heater, It shuts off the Toilet!!!! Go Figure

Is this on city water or out of the freshwater tank?

I had this happen on my 2013 Vibe when on city water. Did some troubleshooting and found that the city water connection was feeding the hot water side rather than the cold water side. This caused everything to work backwards causing hot and cold water to be switched. A quick switch of the connection and all was well again.

This is most likely the problem.

I would fill the fresh water tank and use that as the source of water to see if everything works properly before flipping the hot and cold at the water heater.

That won’t fix it, you need to find where the city connection comes into the camper, mine was behind some drawers. That is where you will need to switch the connection, sorry, don’t believe I clarified that in my first post.

I agree with the others.
It appears your city water connection is plumbed somehow into the hot side of the plumbing and not the cold.

You've been asked this but I'll ask this question again, how does it act using the fresh tank and your pump as a water source?

I have not tryed the frsh water holding tank yet. I though of that too. Thank you for your response. I may be able to get to the connection on my TT from removing the shower unit by the city connection. This may be the key. Thank you.

I see you have two connections on your cold water line. Money says they both go to your outdoor shower. Check the outdoor shower, you will probably find you don’t have hot at the outdoor shower. Simply switch one of the cold connections and the hot connection and you should be good to go.

That’s what had happened on mine. My outdoor shower is now backwards because the hose that was supposed to go to the hot line was too short. Not a big issue for me.

X2, I'd agree.
Move the appropriate connection on the cold line (blue) to the red line (hot) and put the supply line on the blue where it belongs.

Glad I could help someone else out! I’m guessing someone wasn’t paying attention when they were hooking up water lines.
