Greetings all!
Hubby and I are buying our RV this coming weekend. He has had several but this will be my first RV. So...today he explains to me that there is camping lingo that I need to learn before our first trip. Naturally I went to the Google machine to check out the "lingo", but other than abbreviations, I really didn't see much else. Hmmmmm....something doesn't seem right. Not to be outdone by his greater experience, I turn to you to ask for any "lingo" insider information that you can share with me. I want to have some good laughs and just maybe know a thing or two about RVing that he doesn't! Thanks in advance for reading my post

Just scan the various forums and you’ll see a variety of short forms and acronyms that people use.

Ask him if you’re going “glamping” (glamorous camping) or

“Boondocking” or “ Dry Camping” which means there’s no connections for electricity, water or sewer. Under these conditions you utilize solar power or run your generator (if equipped). Use on board water from your fresh water tank, and store used water from sinks and toilet in your gray and black tanks.

Well, you can "hookup" without getting in any trouble.
You can dump, and do it in public.
You can sway, but you'll need to keep that to a minimum.
Sway is bad, but slides are good............if they work ok.
You can't live in the basement.
Check valves have nothing to do with Hockey (that's a stretch, sorry).
And you can throw out these terms and act like he SHOULD know them:
Anode Rod
Bypass valve
Pex lines

Let see - a couple come to mind right off:
A toad is a car being towed behind an RV
if you see a hybrid camper, they can "turtle" that is they are camping without setting up the tent end beds.

How about "the stinky slinky" sewer hose. TV tow vehicle TT travel trailer. There will be many others, for sure.

Black water = sewer
Gray water = sink/shower drain water
Tongue = hitch on the front end of a TT
TT = travel trailer, but I think that and some of the others above like 5er, DH, DW (DS, DD, MIL, FIL) are more forum specific rather than RV specific. also PUP for pop-up.
Island can refer to the location where you dump the Black and Gray water tanks
The Stinky Slinky is the Black Water waste line, but my DW doesn't care for that one, so I don't use it.

There is the turd taxi (blue tote for black tank) and the brown pyramid of death that happens when you don't use enough water when flushing for #2's.

Dry Camping is usually accepted to mean camping in a developed campground that doesn't have any hookups.

Boondocking is usually accepted to means dry camping in undeveloped areas, like deserts, national forests, race tracks, Wal-Mart's and so on.

HW - hot water, HW tank, HW heater (a misnomer for water heater)
City water - a pressurized water supply, whether city, town, country or campground
SZLCD - Single Zone LCD thermostat made by Dometic for smaller units (larger units usually have two zones)
FR - Forest River
FRF - Forest River Forums
OMG - "what have I gotten myself into"
