New Family to RVing in Western US
Good day!
We are a family of five that bought a used 2017 FR Wildwood 26TBSS trailer this month. We're excited to enjoy our new home away from home. As is normal in our house, my wife is concerned about what we need to live in it and I am interested in what I need to fix, prevent from breaking and can modify err improve.
I am hoping to learn from any wisdom long-time RVers have both for trips and on Forest River RVs.
Thanks and have a great day.

Few R/Vs are designed to be lived in full time. A family of 5 will really tax the systems but maybe what you are saying is living in it just on trips?
Best of luck to you. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum. Where in Nevada are you? I am in Northern Nevada and there are a lot of beautiful places around here to camp!

Welcome to rving and the forum.
We suggest driveway camping or a couple of days at a local campground before you take your 'home away from home' on a trip. You'll soon figure out what you'll need. It's different for every family. For repairs, a basic tool kit and a bottle of glue will take care of minor repairs.
Pack for your destination. Even if we're going for warm weather, we pack a jacket which allows for quick warmup if you get caught in the rain. Try not to overpack. Too much 'stuff' and you'll never find what you need in the cupboards.
Safe travels.

Thanks for the all the welcomes.
5picker, I meant on weekend warrior type trips with maybe some long trips starting next year. Family of 5 will tax our sleep since our boys are 6 and younger.
NevadaMiniLite, we're in Reno. There are a ton of great places near us to start small and then branch out as we gain experience and understand what we need.
Reverse Snowbird, I am on board with packing light... I have motorcycle camped too many times to pack heavy. Motivating that behavior in others in my family can be difficult.

Try your first trip in your driveway or back yard.
Try your second trip near home in an organized camp ground, maybe one with hookups so you can try the systems out.
Try your third trip near home without hookups like a National Forest campground.
Then you will be much better prepared to hit the road. Make friends with some RV people. Find a mobile RV mechanic near where you live. Carry some tools. Good luck and good traveling.

DIMford: I am in Genoa, just down the road from you. We love going to Fallen Leaf Lake (in fact, going there next week), and also Kit Carson on Hwy 88. Also lots of boondocking off 88 and Blue Lakes Road.

Try a night or two in Hirschdale with full hook ups and then branch out to boondocking. You could combine wih a night to two at Stampede Reservoir or other nearby lakes.
Welcome to the forum. We live just over the hill from you.

Thanks again for the welcomes.
Update: We took our first trip Labor Day Weekend, boondocking in Plumas National Forest with some friends. It was pretty successful and the family camping in an RV as a kid came back pretty quickly. Not to mention my compulsion to research everything ahead of time allowed us to recharge our batteries every day off a portable solar panel and help out our friends with their airstream batteries dying each day.
NevadaMiniLite and flyflotrtim, We will have to check out all of those spots.
