New from Central Iowa
This is my first post. I have been camping since I was a little kid and loved the experience it gave me growing up. I'm in a position now where I can buy my own camper for my family of 4! I have a loving wife, 1 son (3yo) and 1 daughter (1yo).
I have been exclusively looking at windjammer 3006wk campers and by the grace of God, I found one fairly local. The camper is a 2014 3006wk with the diamond package. It is in immaculate condition and there are no issues or faults with it. The seller wants $22,000.
I don't want to break the bank but I also want to get a nice camper that will last us a long time. I'm having a difficult time finding the value of this camper. I'm seeing mid to high 20K, but want to make sure I'm not over paying.
We're going to look at it next weekend and if we like what we see, we want to buy it. However, I'm willing to walk away and continue the search if they are asking too much. Please help me! Thank you all!!!

Welcome from Wisconsin. Not to hamper the excitement of finding a TT that meets your needs and wants but you mention 'It is in immaculate condition and there are no issues or faults with it.' How do you really know? Have you considered hiring a certified RV inspector to take a very close and detailed look at every system, appliance, construction, roof, side walls, windows/doors for leaks and water intrusion, tire age & condition, etc. IMHO it might be $ well spent on a 10 yo rig.

Agreed. I've been around campers since before I can remember. Every year I helped my dad with maintenance and winterizing. We started with a little destiny pop up, then went to a bantam trail light 18ft. In 2017 my parents purchased a jayco 23rl that my wife and I borrowed on occasion. I'm going to pick their brains on where everything is and make sure everything works to the best of my ability.
The sellers have been very transparent with me as far as what they're looking for on price and don't seem to have any reservations on us looking at it in person.
Seller's description: "Beautiful camper, all new tires, new flooring in entry and bathroom, upgraded steps. Outside grill, stove, fridge, sink, tv mount, speakers, LED lights outside, all electric. 34.42ft, weight 7,308. Serious buyers only. Selling for something a bit smaller. Price is negotiable. Thanks!!"
What I'm finding is mid to high 20's for price so I'm sure 22k is a fair deal. But is that because they are worth it, or just because that's what people are listing them for?
I'm also considering renting out out on occasion and want to find something durable for frequent use. Again, thank you all for your input and I look forward to more discussion!

Welcome to the forum. I had a similar camper called a V-Lite. mine was a 2015 and I sold it for 24,000 in 2020. It was in great shape then. Now your looking at a trailer that is 10 years old. I'd have to consider offering a lower price even tho it may be in great shape. They are great trailers but also they are no longer made. I would have gladly bought another one had they sill been in production but i had to choose a different camper. Look over very carefully. You can go to the green header bar above and click on Library and scroll down till you see PDI this is a printable form and is a good guide to check out everything on the camper. Good luck. Later RJD

You also need to know that when you buy a 10 year old camper, you can run into the 10 year rule at some private campgrounds. They won't let you camp in a 10 year old camper.

I've never heard of that before. We have 3 really nice campgrounds ice seen some beat up campers in before so I don't think that'll be an issue. What campgrounds do you know of that have that rule?

Welcome from Cedar Rapids!
Look it over very well. The market is still high on campers but the final price is what you decide you are willing to pay.
I've heard of this 10 year old rule and I have talked to private campgrounds about this. The main issue is they don't want junky, run down units. They want their campgrounds to look nice and that includes having nice units. Some will accept a picture and/or look at it when you arrive.

Welcome to the forum. Campgrounds with the 10 year old rule usually have the word "Resort" in their name. As an example Here is a "Resort" in North Georgia with a 20 year old rule, and right to reject based on RV appearance, no canvas, no kids, and some other interesting rules. Here is another one, also in North Georgia, with a 10 year rule unless you send four photos for per-approval.
Read their rules before booking and you'll be fine.

Welcome to Forest River Forums!
There is a lot to this Forum as you have HELPS, USER CP, (which you should complete as much info as you are willing to share. This will help others help you faster and make friends) In the MAIN MENU "FORUMS" Slowly pan down the long lists to find your RV and join that group as that will be the experts on your RV who can share tips, ideas, as well as places to visit to make your adventures last a lifetime.
You can also go to the Forest River website and find your MAKE and Model RV and at the very bottom in BLACK on your LEFT you will find "OWNERS MANUEL" and download it to an SD card or chip in the event you want to review something more closely on your NEW RV.
Welcome again as we are all here to share and help each other.

Central Iowa person here. We have not encountered a 10 year rule in the general area at the parks we use. Really like the plethora of COE, State, and County parks around Red Rock, Rathbun, and over at Coralville.
As others have said, a 10 year old camper has the possibility of some major problems, but may be fine. Look at it closely. You should also look very closely at tow vehicle capabilities to make sure there are no expensive surprises there. (You may already have done so)

I looked at RVTrader for the OP's trailer and found a 2014 Flagstaff with the identical floorplan for considerably fewer $$$. The link is HERE. For the OP, Rockwood and Flagstaff are the same trailers, made in the same factory, just with different decals.

The seller makes no reference to being stored inside. Any camper stored outside would have faded paint and decals. Many of the campgrounds with the 10 year rule are in warmer climates with longer term rentals for snowbirds. Seems the market has really cooled off and dropping, dealers have excess inventory. Good luck with your search. We are from northeast Iowa.

Family Man
Welcome to Forest River Forums
I'm from the Sunshine State, on Florida's west coast.
Seeing that I posted here prior, I did a review of some of your POSTED updates. Looking good, Family Man. Here is what I hope will further help and your family this summer. As you get more traveling and camping out of the way. I hope the following links will be of some help.
In this Forest River Forums, "FRF" you have two menu's. The top MENU is what I call the MAIN for the FORUM. and the second is your "tool belt" as they help you to reach more out into the Forum. Here is a Forum link for "Library" When you will find a lot of helpful fun information and free downloads from this forum, click HERE
For Campground all over North America click HERE
To Dump your Gray and Black Holding Tanks click HERE
But one of the best things you can do is click on FORUMS (top MENU) and pan down to TRAILERS aka "TT" and find your group read about issues others are having. Then check your systems to correct an issue before it becomes a problem.
If you need anything just ask the group here, all members seem to enjoy helping others. I'm an old fart, so no more kiddo at home, but she did give us 8 grandchildren, and soon there will be 4 Great Grandchildren, as two are learning to walk now.
Enjoy the adventures and road trips outdoors!

Make sure everything works and no leaks!!!! Look real close for mildew and moisture. Get on the roof and look around. Check the dates and brand of tires for sure. Go by the date and not the miles. 5 years is about it for an RV. When you do get one use FMCA. The first level is cheap. I'm 86 and after 60 years of RVing we gave it up but still belong to FMCA.
