Hey everybody, new to the forum here, relatively new to camping in general. We recently picked up our new Coachmen 192RBS. So far we love it. The only problem is, we haven't had a chance to take it out yet! Hopefully we can fix that soon. Look forward to checking out all the great info, and helping out whenever I can.

Thanks,

Brian

Congrats on your new Coachman, and Welcome !!!

If you can't get on the road, "cheat" and visit Camp Driveway ... seriously, great way to get the feel, figure things out, and get some instant gratification.

Most Important ... Have Fun !!!

Exactly! We have been playing around in the drive for sure. I'm going to try and get a 30 amp plug installed soon as well. If all goes well, we'll shake it down this weekend! Thanks for all the welcome messages.

If you DON'T run the A/C or electric water heater, and avoid other "bad" things (i.e. electric stove burner, space heater) you can safely get away with a heavy duty 20-amp service and 14 or 12 Ga. extension cord ... but having a 30 Amp in drive would be nice, it is on our wish list.

We've done that before with our old camper and did ok with just the lights and radio and propane furnace running. The plug that we have to use is on the same breaker as the microwave in the kitchen so you really have to be careful. Do you have any experience running a slide in and out while plugged in to a normal 15/20 amp plug?

From pretty much May through October, it has been plugged into 20 amp garage circuit, through an extension that we would never run the A/C through. Well, plugged in here when NOT out camping. We had a LOT of "short hop" outings this year - 2 to 4 days at a time, and a couple longer ones. But it added up to a great season.

NO problems with the power converter or running the slide out and in.
The battery is connected in good shape, and certainly participates in the process of operating the slide motors. The "Best" thing for any electric motor in a high torque application is having the CORRECT voltage and current available. If one does the math for the converter providing voltage to run the whole RV 12 volt system, it is immediately apparent that running on a 15 or 20 amp supply will be just fine.

Welcome to the forum from Missouri and congratulations on the new Coachmen 192RBS.
Camping in the drive way if your city allows campers to be stored there is a great way to try your camper out. If you forget anything it is just a short distance away.
Make up a todo list for getting ready to travel or parking your RV. Mistakes are easy to make and can be hard to repair.
Happy camping and safe travels to you.
