New member 1st Travel Trailer
Hi there!
We are picking up our new Rockwood 2608 on Thursday and can’t wait! Current plan is to travel from northern Minnesota to Florida in June to meet our new granddaughter. We have a 2019 Ford 150 XLT supercrew with short box,eco boost and max towing package.
Since we are brand new to the RV world (a retired couple), we are looking for pearls of wisdom. What are the 3 top pearls you can share with us? Thanks!!

Get the best weight distribution hitch you can afford and dont be in a hurry. That TT will be long and heavy for the F-150. Do-able but heavy.

3 pearls-
1) Check your roof and seals (Windows/slides, etc.) quarterly and fix any issues.
2) Do or have done the maintenance as directed. Bearings, washing, etc.
3) Check your tire pressure before moving the RV every time. Most blowouts are due to low tire pressure.

Congratulations on your purchase and your granddaughter.
Purchase a dogbone adapter (Walmart) which will allow your 30 or 50 amp connector to plug into your 15 amp home power.
Do some driveway camping, or if not the driveway a close to your home camp where you can test and become familiar with all systems in the camper. Start to load it with the "stuff" you need, and not what you think it needs.
Make sure you have the tools, jacks, breaker bars, and wheel lug sockets to be able to change a tire if necessary, as those things do not usually come with the camper.

3 pearls (not necessarily wisdom)
1. Before you sign the final papers, make certain everything works on the trailer and repairs are made. Once you sign those papers, you'll be dealing with the service department and depending on the dealer, that might be a frustrating experience.
2. Pack only essentials which is less than you think you'll need (there are stores along the way if you find you 'must' have something)
3. Plan to drive around 300 miles a day. Towing a trailer is exhausting when you first tow)

1. Dealers are usually faster to fix bugs before you sign and drive away so look it over carefully.
2.Take video of any technical things they tell or show you "how this works".
3. Camp at least one day at home or a nearby park and you will find you have questions or need things or have issues before you take that 1st long trip.

Is this your first experience towing a trailer of any kind???
I hope your truck has RV mirrors?
Make WIDE turns!!!
Gas stations are a common place for folks to "cut the corner" and side swipe something.
If in doubt get out and look before hand!
Have someone outside watching if you are in a squeeze.
We found that my wife gives lousy back up directions like "look out!" "go that-way" "move over"... my response is "which way???"
So after I get us there- ready to back in, we swap places.
She drives and I walk along side and tell her exactly which way to steer and I mean exactly! We park like pros and no more frustration at the camp site!

Pearls of wisdom:
1. Go to Lowe’s and buy a good medium sized square tip screwdriver. No, the trailer industry does not use Phillips heads!
2. Lots of dog bones! With my 50 amp service I have two 110, one to 30 amps and an ems (debateable, decide for yourself). And a good 100’ extension cord.
3. You need a battery monitor. Modern rv’s have large parasitic loads. Batteries are the weakest link. The “free” battery you will receive is designed to power the brakes! Not sleep overnight!
4. Get whatever maximum ac available. One unit will not cut it in Florida or Texas in the summer!

1) Make sure tow vehicle and trailer tires are inflated properly
2) Change trailer tires every 5 or 6 years regardless of tread. They dry rot over time and you risk a blow out.
3) Get familiar with your trailer in your driveway first
